What Yokogawa CENTUM VP does
CENTUM VP is a distributed control system: redundant Field Control Stations running the regulatory and sequence control, N-IO or FIO input and output modules terminating the field wiring, and Human Interface Stations giving operators the graphics and alarm list. The current release is R7, shipped in late 2025. It supports FOUNDATION fieldbus, PROFIBUS-DP, Modbus and HART, and pairs with Yokogawa ProSafe-RS for the safety instrumented system on a shared operator console. What separates CENTUM from Honeywell Experion, ABB 800xA and Emerson DeltaV in practice is continuity of the installed base. Yokogawa has kept a migration route from CENTUM CS 1000 and CS 3000 hardware into CENTUM VP, so a plant can replace controllers in a single turnaround while leaving marshalling cabinets and field cabling alone. That matters commercially because in a DCS replacement the wiring, loop checks and shutdown time dwarf the licence.
