What JobBOSS² does
JobBOSS² is a job shop management system published by ECI Software Solutions, covering estimating and quoting, order management, material purchasing, scheduling, shop floor data collection, job costing and accounting for make to order manufacturers. It is available hosted or on premises and is aimed at discrete machining, fabrication and assembly shops. The fact that changes an evaluation is that JobBOSS² is a merger of two products with separate histories and separate customer bases. ECI acquired JobBOSS and later the E2 Shop System, ran them in parallel, and then combined them into a single line. For a new buyer that consolidation is mostly good, because development is no longer split. For an existing customer of either legacy product it is the central commercial issue: continued investment goes to the merged product, and moving to it is a data migration and retraining exercise with a cost that has to be negotiated rather than assumed. ECI itself is a private equity owned software group with a large portfolio of vertical products, which shapes how pricing, support tiers and end of life decisions tend to go. Buyers are small and mid size job shops, commonly ten to one hundred and fifty employees, that want quoting through to invoicing in one system with an accounting module included. The trade off against a modern cloud native product is user experience and flexibility; the trade off against a bare ERP is that shop floor and estimating depth are already present rather than needing a second purchase.

What happened to E2 Shop System?
ECI acquired it and merged it with JobBOSS into the combined JobBOSS² line. Legacy customers are directed towards migration.
Is it cloud based?
It is offered hosted and on premises. Hosted is not the same as a cloud native architecture, and performance expectations should be set accordingly.
Does it include accounting?
Yes, accounting is part of the product, which is one of the main reasons small shops choose it over an ERP plus separate finance package.
Can it read data from my CNC machines?
Not natively in any meaningful way. Data collection is operator driven, so shops wanting spindle level data buy a monitoring platform alongside it.
