What QAD Redzone does
QAD Redzone is a connected workforce platform used mainly in food and beverage, consumer packaged goods and other process manufacturing plants. Tablets are mounted at production lines, crews record downtime, changeovers, quality checks and production against targets, and the system provides live line performance, structured communication between shifts and departments, and reporting on productivity by crew and line. What distinguishes it is that the deployment is an operating model change delivered as a programme, not a software installation. The vendor runs a structured coaching engagement with plant leadership and crews during the first months, focused on daily huddles, crew ownership of line targets and rapid escalation of stoppages. The productivity gains customers report come from that behavioural work as much as from the data. The commercial consequence is that the first year cost is not the licence alone, and the programme fails outright where plant leadership does not participate, which is a genuinely different risk profile from ordinary software. QAD acquired Redzone in 2022, and QAD is owned by the private equity firm Thoma Bravo. That places a frontline engagement product inside an ERP company with its own manufacturing suite, so buyers should ask how the product is positioned against and integrated with the wider QAD portfolio, and whether standalone customers who do not run QAD ERP remain a priority. - Licensing is per production line and per site, so a plant running many short lines pays far more than a plant with a few long ones producing the same volume, and the pricing unit is not comparable with per user or per machine products.
- The result depends on a change programme, and where plant leadership treats it as a software rollout and skips the coaching discipline, the tablets become expensive downtime logs and the promised gains do not appear.
- Data comes largely from crew input plus simple sensors rather than deep controller integration, so a plant expecting automatic capture from its process control system will need additional work or a different product.
- QAD acquired it in 2022 and QAD is owned by a private equity firm, so buyers who do not run QAD ERP should ask directly how long standalone deployments remain a strategic priority and what integration commitments exist in writing.
- It suits repetitive process lines and fits badly in low volume high mix discrete manufacturing, where crews, targets and changeover patterns do not have the regularity the model assumes.
