What Augury does

Augury monitors rotating equipment such as motors, pumps, fans, compressors and gearboxes. Halo sensors mount to the machine and stream vibration, temperature, magnetic and ultrasonic data to Augurys cloud, where machine-learning models plus human vibration analysts produce diagnoses with a named fault and a severity, not just an anomaly score. Findings arrive as work recommendations with an assigned analyst, and can be pushed into a CMMS. The commercially distinguishing thing is the delivery model. Augury sells Diagnostics as a Service: a flat annual fee per monitored machine that bundles the sensors, connectivity, installation, software, updates and unlimited diagnostic reviews. There is no separate sensor purchase order, no per-user software licence and no vibration analyst on your payroll. That solves a real procurement problem, because the usual condition-monitoring business case dies on the hardware capex line. The consequence is that the cost never amortises: a machine monitored for eight years costs eight annual fees, where a self-run vibration programme front-loads hardware and then runs cheap. Who buys it: consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper and building-services operators with large fleets of similar rotating assets and no in-house reliability team. The trade-off is coverage. Augury is strong on standard rotating machinery and weak outside it, so the assets that are unusual, low-speed or process-critical in an unusual way often stay outside the programme and still need conventional route-based monitoring.

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Augury.

  • The per-machine annual fee never stops, so over a five to eight year horizon the total exceeds buying sensors and software outright and running the programme yourself.
  • Coverage is aimed at standard rotating equipment; reciprocating compressors, very low-speed machinery and non-rotating assets are poorly served, so you still need a second monitoring approach.
  • Diagnoses depend on Augurys analysts, which means the quality of your programme is set by a vendor queue you do not control and turnaround is not something you can escalate internally.
  • The sensors and the analytics are one system, so leaving Augury means removing the hardware and starting again; there is no path to keep the sensors and change the software.
  • Pricing is unpublished and negotiated per fleet, so buyers have no benchmark and comparable plants can pay materially different per-machine rates.
