Overview
SilverCloud is a guided digital cognitive behavioural therapy platform that began at Trinity College Dublin and was acquired by the American telehealth company Amwell in 2021. It is now sold as SilverCloud by Amwell. Members work through structured programmes for depression, anxiety, sleep, stress and related conditions, and in the guided model a supporter or clinician reviews progress and provides asynchronous written feedback at intervals. That supporter element is what separates it from unguided self help content, and it is also the part that costs money to staff. The distinguishing asset is the evidence. SilverCloud has been the subject of independently led randomised controlled trials, including a National Institute of Mental Health funded trial whose results were published in Nature Human Behaviour in 2026 examining prevalence of mental disorders over two years at scale. It also holds a ten year partnership with the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, announced in 2024, which makes it one of the very few digital mental health products with both peer reviewed outcome data and a long horizon public sector commitment. For a buyer being asked to justify a digital mental health purchase to a clinical governance committee, that is a materially different position from a vendor offering engagement metrics. Buyers are health systems, health plans, NHS talking therapies services, universities and employers. The trade off is that guided digital cognitive behavioural therapy has meaningful dropout, and the guided model requires supporter capacity the buyer usually has to provide. Organisations that deploy it as an unstaffed self service app get the completion rates of unguided self help, which is not what the trials measured.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about SilverCloud by Amwell.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Answered, with sources
Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.
Yes. It is marketed as SilverCloud by Amwell and has its own product pages and NHS partnership, though contracting runs through Amwell.
It has been evaluated in independently led randomised controlled trials, including a National Institute of Mental Health funded study published in Nature Human Behaviour in 2026 examining prevalence of mental disorders over two years at scale.
In most deployments, yes. The guided model requires trained supporter time, and that staffing is usually the buyer responsibility rather than included in the licence.
No. It is a step two style intervention for mild to moderate presentations, and it needs a funded escalation pathway for anything more severe.
