Ginger: If on-demand coaching with escalation to therapy fits the population better than a matched therapy model

Employer mental health benefit that puts a share of its own fee at risk against measured symptom improvement
As of 1 September 2026, Spring Health's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Spring Health replaces or wraps a traditional employee assistance programme with precision-matched therapy, psychiatry and coaching. Softwr lists it under HR. Spring Health is made by Spring Care, Inc. trading as Spring Health, available on Web, iOS, Android.
Overview
Spring Health sells a mental health benefit to employers and health plans covering assessment, a matched therapist or psychiatric provider, coaching, medication management and care navigation. Members complete a validated assessment, typically PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and the platform matches them to a provider and care level rather than sending them to a general directory. Sessions are usually delivered as a defined number of employer-sponsored visits before the member steps into their health plan benefit. The commercially distinguishing element is the pricing structure. Spring Health has pushed an outcomes-based model in which a portion of the fee is at risk against measured improvement in assessment scores rather than being paid purely on access or utilisation. That matters because the traditional employee assistance programme is priced at a low per employee per month rate with utilisation in the low single digits, and employers have no way to tell whether the money bought anything. Spring Health measures repeatedly through treatment and reports the change. The catch is that improvement is measured among people who engage, which is not the same as improvement across the workforce, and the at risk portion is a slice of the fee rather than all of it. Buyers are mid-market and enterprise employers, usually through a benefits consultant, replacing an incumbent employee assistance programme. Pricing is per employee per month and not published; publicly the chief executive has indicated employers should expect something in the range of one hundred to one hundred and fifty dollars per employee per year, which is several times a conventional EAP rate. That is the number that decides most deals, and it is why Spring Health rarely wins where the buyer only wants a compliance-grade EAP box ticked.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Spring Health.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Per employee per month, billed to the employer, with a portion available at risk against measured outcomes. Rates are not published; public statements from the company suggest roughly one hundred to one hundred and fifty dollars per employee per year.
Usually the employer, for the sponsored session block. After those sessions the member typically continues under their health plan benefit with normal cost sharing.
That a defined portion of the vendor fee is contingent on measured change in assessment scores among engaged members. It is not a guarantee of workforce-level improvement.
Yes in practice. Spring Health sells to mid-market and enterprise employers and health plans; very small employers are not the target and usually cannot get a quote.
