Uptake

Predictive maintenance analytics for commercial vehicle fleets and heavy industrial assets

As of 1 September 2026, Uptake's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Uptake has narrowed sharply from its original industrial AI ambitions to fleet vehicle health, and Bosch announced a planned acquisition in March 2026. Softwr lists it under Fleet Management. Uptake is made by Uptake Technologies, available on Web, Cloud, iOS, Android.

Overview

What Uptake does

Uptake is a Chicago software company that applies machine learning to sensor and fault-code data to predict equipment failures before they happen. Its current centre of gravity is commercial vehicle fleets: it ingests telematics, engine fault codes and maintenance history, and produces ranked, actionable alerts telling a fleet maintenance manager which trucks need attention and why. It also retains asset performance management capability for heavy industrial equipment such as mining and rail assets, but the commercial emphasis has moved decisively toward fleets. The fact that should change a shortlist is ownership. Uptake launched in 2014 with very broad industrial AI ambitions and substantial funding, contracted significantly over the following decade, and in March 2026 Bosch announced a planned acquisition, subject to regulatory approval, to fold Uptake's models into the Bosch Connectivity Hub telematics and FleetME ecosystem. That is good news for fleet buyers who want a large parent behind the product and poor news for any industrial buyer outside the vehicle domain, whose use case is now clearly not the strategic priority. Buyers are mid-size and large commercial fleets and vehicle OEMs. The trade-off is dependence on data you may not control: Uptake needs a telematics feed, and the quality of its predictions is a function of which telematics device is fitted and which fault codes that device exposes. Pricing is per asset per month, quoted, with a minimum fleet size in practice, and the integration work to get clean data flowing is a project in itself.

What people use it for

  • A long-haul carrier drowning in engine fault codes that needs the ten trucks worth acting on today rather than the four hundred codes logged
  • A vehicle OEM wanting failure prediction on its own product without building a data science team
  • A mixed fleet running several telematics providers where the operator wants one health view instead of three vendor portals
  • A mining operation predicting haul truck component failures where an unplanned pit stoppage costs far more than the software

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Uptake.

  • Bosch announced a planned acquisition in March 2026, so the roadmap and the pricing model beyond the current contract term are outside the seller's control; buyers should insist on contractual protection rather than verbal reassurance.
  • The company narrowed dramatically from its original industrial AI positioning, and non-fleet industrial customers are now clearly a secondary segment whose requirements will compete with vehicle priorities inside a much larger parent.
  • Predictions depend entirely on the telematics feed, so a fleet with cheap devices that expose limited fault codes gets weaker results and no amount of model quality compensates.
  • Pricing is per asset per month with a practical fleet minimum, which puts it out of reach for smaller operators who arguably have the least maintenance analytics capability of their own.
  • It recommends but does not execute: alerts still have to be turned into work orders in a separate maintenance system, so value depends on integration work and on shop discipline Uptake cannot enforce.

Capabilities

Features

  • Fault code prioritisation

Ranks diagnostic trouble codes by predicted consequence rather than listing them all

  • Failure prediction models

Pretrained models for common commercial vehicle components rather than models you must train yourself

  • Telematics ingestion

Connects to major telematics providers and OEM data feeds rather than requiring its own hardware

  • Maintenance recommendations

Produces a specific recommended action and part, not just an anomaly score

  • Fleet health dashboards

Asset-level and fleet-level views aimed at a maintenance manager rather than a data team

  • Industrial APM

Retained capability for mining, rail and heavy equipment outside the fleet use case

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Is Uptake still trading?

Yes. It is operating and selling, with a Bosch acquisition announced in March 2026 and subject to regulatory approval.

Do I need Uptake hardware?

No. It consumes data from existing telematics devices and OEM feeds; there is no Uptake sensor to buy.

Is Uptake still selling industrial asset performance management?

It retains the capability, but the commercial focus and the acquisition rationale are both fleet vehicles. Treat non-fleet roadmap commitments cautiously.

How is it priced?

Per asset per month, quoted, with a practical minimum fleet size. Nothing is published.
