The short version
- Each has a real cost: GPS Trackit month-to-month pricing carries a premium, so measured across three years the total cost usually exceeds a competitor with hardware amortised into a term contract.; Uptake bosch announced a planned acquisition in March 2026, so the roadmap and the pricing model beyond the current contract term are outside the seller's control; buyers should insist on contractual protection rather than verbal reassurance.
- They diverge on capability: GPS Trackit covers Live tracking, Uptake covers Fault code prioritisation.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

What people use each for
The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.
GPS Trackit
- A contractor whose fleet size swings with the season and who cannot justify a three-year commitment on vehicles it may not run next springnot Uptake
- A small service business trialling telematics for the first time that wants an exit if drivers or supervisors do not adopt itnot Uptake
- A fleet that needs devices fitted the week they arrive, without booking installation appointments across a depotnot Uptake
- An operator replacing a vendor mid-contract that wants a stopgap platform rather than another long agreementnot Uptake
Uptake
- A long-haul carrier drowning in engine fault codes that needs the ten trucks worth acting on today rather than the four hundred codes loggednot GPS Trackit
- A vehicle OEM wanting failure prediction on its own product without building a data science teamnot GPS Trackit
- A mixed fleet running several telematics providers where the operator wants one health view instead of three vendor portalsnot GPS Trackit
- A mining operation predicting haul truck component failures where an unplanned pit stoppage costs far more than the softwarenot GPS Trackit
Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
GPS Trackit
- Month-to-month pricing carries a premium, so measured across three years the total cost usually exceeds a competitor with hardware amortised into a term contract.
- The feature set is tracking-first, with a shallow maintenance module and no meaningful work order, parts or inventory management, so fleets serious about maintenance need a second system.
- Compliance tooling is basic, and a fleet that takes on regulated interstate work will find the hours of service capability behind vendors built around the mandate.
- The integration list is short and the API is limited, so pushing telematics data into payroll, job costing or an ERP normally becomes a manual export routine.
- Self-installed OBD-II devices are easy to fit and equally easy for a driver to unplug, and the tamper reporting does not make up for the fact that the physical device is within reach of the person being monitored.
Uptake
- Bosch announced a planned acquisition in March 2026, so the roadmap and the pricing model beyond the current contract term are outside the seller's control; buyers should insist on contractual protection rather than verbal reassurance.
- The company narrowed dramatically from its original industrial AI positioning, and non-fleet industrial customers are now clearly a secondary segment whose requirements will compete with vehicle priorities inside a much larger parent.
- Predictions depend entirely on the telematics feed, so a fleet with cheap devices that expose limited fault codes gets weaker results and no amount of model quality compensates.
- Pricing is per asset per month with a practical fleet minimum, which puts it out of reach for smaller operators who arguably have the least maintenance analytics capability of their own.
- It recommends but does not execute: alerts still have to be turned into work orders in a separate maintenance system, so value depends on integration work and on shop discipline Uptake cannot enforce.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages
GPS Trackit: Is there really no contract?
The subscription is month to month, but read the hardware terms. Devices are supplied on the expectation they come back, and unreturned units are charged for.
Uptake: Is Uptake still trading?
Yes. It is operating and selling, with a Bosch acquisition announced in March 2026 and subject to regulatory approval.
GPS Trackit: How does the cost compare to Samsara or Verizon Connect over three years?
Generally higher per vehicle, because those vendors discount in exchange for the commitment. The comparison only favours GPS Trackit if you value the ability to leave.
Uptake: Do I need Uptake hardware?
No. It consumes data from existing telematics devices and OEM feeds; there is no Uptake sensor to buy.
GPS Trackit: Can drivers unplug the tracker?
A plug-in OBD-II device can be removed in seconds. The system reports the disconnection, but enforcement is a management problem, not a technical one. Hardwired units are available for fleets where this matters.
Uptake: Is Uptake still selling industrial asset performance management?
It retains the capability, but the commercial focus and the acquisition rationale are both fleet vehicles. Treat non-fleet roadmap commitments cautiously.
Uptake: How is it priced?
Per asset per month, quoted, with a practical minimum fleet size. Nothing is published.
