The short version

  • Each has a real cost: Fleet Complete because most contracts are sold through a carrier, the commercial relationship, the service levels and the renewal date belong to the carrier, so a pricing dispute or a support escalation goes through a reseller who did not build the software.; Uptake bosch announced a planned acquisition in March 2026, so the roadmap and the pricing model beyond the current contract term are outside the seller's control; buyers should insist on contractual protection rather than verbal reassurance.
  • They diverge on capability: Fleet Complete covers Vehicle tracking, Uptake covers Fault code prioritisation.
  • Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

What people use each for

The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.

Fleet Complete

  • A mid-size fleet already under a national carrier contract that wants tracking added to an existing telecoms agreement rather than a new vendor relationshipnot Uptake
  • Mixed fleets that need to track unpowered assets such as trailers and generators alongside vehicles in one consolenot Uptake
  • Canadian operators wanting a domestic vendor with local support and Telus channel billingnot Uptake
  • Service businesses that want basic dispatch and vehicle tracking without buying a separate field service platformnot Uptake

Uptake

  • A long-haul carrier drowning in engine fault codes that needs the ten trucks worth acting on today rather than the four hundred codes loggednot Fleet Complete
  • A vehicle OEM wanting failure prediction on its own product without building a data science teamnot Fleet Complete
  • A mixed fleet running several telematics providers where the operator wants one health view instead of three vendor portalsnot Fleet Complete
  • A mining operation predicting haul truck component failures where an unplanned pit stoppage costs far more than the softwarenot Fleet Complete

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Fleet Complete

  • Because most contracts are sold through a carrier, the commercial relationship, the service levels and the renewal date belong to the carrier, so a pricing dispute or a support escalation goes through a reseller who did not build the software.
  • Hardware is bundled into the subscription over a multi-year term, so a fleet that shrinks mid-contract keeps paying for units that are sitting in a store cupboard unless it negotiated a downsizing clause up front.
  • The product line was assembled by acquisition, so hours of service, European tracking and the core platform originated as separate products, leaving overlapping apps, duplicate logins and features that exist in one region but not another.
  • The third-party integration ecosystem is far smaller than the marketplaces run by Geotab or Samsara, so bespoke connections to a maintenance or payroll system usually mean building against the API yourself.
  • The web console and reporting look and behave like software designed a decade ago, and administrators who have used a newer platform will find the reporting builder slow and the exports rigid.

Uptake

  • Bosch announced a planned acquisition in March 2026, so the roadmap and the pricing model beyond the current contract term are outside the seller's control; buyers should insist on contractual protection rather than verbal reassurance.
  • The company narrowed dramatically from its original industrial AI positioning, and non-fleet industrial customers are now clearly a secondary segment whose requirements will compete with vehicle priorities inside a much larger parent.
  • Predictions depend entirely on the telematics feed, so a fleet with cheap devices that expose limited fault codes gets weaker results and no amount of model quality compensates.
  • Pricing is per asset per month with a practical fleet minimum, which puts it out of reach for smaller operators who arguably have the least maintenance analytics capability of their own.
  • It recommends but does not execute: alerts still have to be turned into work orders in a separate maintenance system, so value depends on integration work and on shop discipline Uptake cannot enforce.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

Fleet Complete: Do I buy Fleet Complete directly or through my mobile operator?

Both are possible, but the majority of North American customers buy through AT&T or Telus. Check which entity the contract is with, because it determines your support path, your billing cycle and your renewal date.

Uptake: Is Uptake still trading?

Yes. It is operating and selling, with a Bosch acquisition announced in March 2026 and subject to regulatory approval.

Fleet Complete: What happens to the hardware if I cancel?

Devices supplied as part of a subsidised subscription are normally recovered or charged for on early termination. Ask for the exact clause before signing, because it is where the real cost of leaving sits.

Uptake: Do I need Uptake hardware?

No. It consumes data from existing telematics devices and OEM feeds; there is no Uptake sensor to buy.

Fleet Complete: Is it a fit for a fleet of five vans?

It will work, but small fleets get a better deal from vendors that publish pricing and sell month to month. Fleet Complete pricing improves with volume and a carrier relationship.

Uptake: Is Uptake still selling industrial asset performance management?

It retains the capability, but the commercial focus and the acquisition rationale are both fleet vehicles. Treat non-fleet roadmap commitments cautiously.

Uptake: How is it priced?

Per asset per month, quoted, with a practical minimum fleet size. Nothing is published.
