What Trimble Unity Maintain does
Trimble Unity Maintain is enterprise asset management for public infrastructure: water and sewer networks, roads, parks, fleets and facilities. Work orders, service requests, inspections and permits are all created against features in an Esri geodatabase rather than against records in a separate asset table. A crew closing a valve exercise job updates the same feature the GIS division maintains, so there is one asset record instead of a GIS copy and a maintenance copy that drift apart. That architecture is the whole argument and the whole constraint. It is why utilities and public works departments that have already invested in ArcGIS choose it, because the asset inventory already exists and does not need re-entering. It is also why it is a poor fit anywhere ArcGIS is absent: you would be buying an Esri Enterprise deployment to run a maintenance system. Trimble also folded AgileAssets, its transportation asset management line, into the same Unity Maintain brand, so what a proposal calls Unity Maintain may mean the Cityworks lineage or the AgileAssets lineage depending on which Trimble team wrote it. Buyers are municipalities, water and wastewater utilities, counties and state transportation departments, overwhelmingly in North America. Two things belong on any shortlist note. First, the rename is in progress with transition timelines Trimble has not fixed, so contracts, support articles and integrator skills still say Cityworks. Second, in February 2025 a deserialisation vulnerability in Cityworks, CVE-2025-0994, was exploited in the wild and added to the United States CISA known exploited vulnerabilities catalogue, forcing emergency patching across municipal deployments. That is a live consideration for on-premise installations and a reason to weigh the hosted option.
