Overview
Trimble Pay, which traded as Flashtract until its acquisition by Trimble, automates the monthly billing cycle between a general contractor and its subcontractors. The general contractor sets up the schedule of values once; each subcontractor enters a percentage complete, and the system generates the pay application, calculates retention, produces the conditional and unconditional lien waivers in the form required by the relevant state, and holds the unconditional waiver until payment actually clears. Compliance documents such as insurance certificates and sworn statements are tracked against the same record, and lower-tier subcontractors can be tracked for joint cheque exposure. The distinguishing commercial point is who buys it. Unlike Oracle Textura, where the subcontractor is billed a percentage of contract value per project, Trimble Pay is bought and paid for by the general contractor, and subcontractors use it without a fee. That difference removes the single hardest part of rolling out a payment platform, which is persuading trades to pay to invoice you. It is also the argument a contractor should make internally when comparing the two, because the total cost across a project portfolio can land very differently depending on which side is charged. Buyers are mid-sized to large general contractors in the United States, typically those whose accounts payable team spends days each month chasing incorrect billings and missing waivers. The trade-off is scope: this is billing and compliance, not project management and not accounting, so it sits between Procore or Autodesk on one side and the construction ERP on the other, and it must integrate with both to be worth having.
