What VUEWorks does

VUEWorks is a web-based enterprise asset management system for cities, counties, utilities, transport agencies and school districts. It covers work orders, service requests, preventive maintenance, inspections, condition assessment, capital planning and pavement and infrastructure management, with Esri ArcGIS as the spatial backbone. It grew out of the transportation and infrastructure consulting world rather than the plant maintenance world, and the module set reflects that: pavement condition, sign and signal inventories, stormwater and sanitary sewer inspection. The distinguishing design decision is that VUEWorks reads and writes against the GIS rather than maintaining a parallel asset table that has to be reconciled. That is genuinely different from CMMS products that import a GIS extract nightly and then drift. The commercial consequence is that VUEWorks is only as good as your ArcGIS data, so agencies with a well maintained enterprise geodatabase get value quickly and agencies without one buy a data project first. Who buys it: North American public works departments, water and stormwater utilities, and transport agencies that already run Esri and need condition-driven capital planning that survives scrutiny from a council. The trade-off is scale of vendor. VUEWorks is a small product with a modest partner network, no published pricing, and a user interface that is functional rather than modern, and its route to market has historically run through engineering consultancies who also sell the data collection work.

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about VUEWorks.

The product assumes a maintained enterprise ArcGIS geodatabase; agencies without one face a spatial data cleanup project before VUEWorks does anything useful, and that project is usually quoted by the same consultancy selling the software.
No pricing is published and deals are typically bundled with consulting services, which makes it hard to separate the software cost from the data work when comparing bids.
The interface is functional rather than modern, and field crews accustomed to consumer mobile apps often resist it, which undermines the data quality the capital planning depends on.
The Esri dependency is also an Esri cost: agencies need current ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online licensing, and that sits outside the VUEWorks quote entirely.
It is a small vendor with a limited partner network and a mainly North American footprint, so support and implementation capacity outside that region is thin.
