Overview
TrendMiner is self-service analytics over process historian data. Its core interaction is pattern search: an engineer selects a section of a trend that represents a good batch, a fouling episode or a startup, and the software finds every similar occurrence across years of history. From there it supports overlaying occurrences, building monitors that fire when the pattern recurs, computing soft sensors from tag arithmetic, and publishing dashboards. It reads from AVEVA PI, Honeywell PHD, Aspen IP.21, Yokogawa Exaquantum, InfluxDB and OPC UA sources without copying the historian into a new store. The commercial context has changed and buyers should know it. TrendMiner was a Belgian startup, acquired by Software AG in 2018, and then sold in 2024 to Proemion, a German telematics and industrial analytics company backed by Battery Ventures, for 47 million euros. That was part of Silver Lake dismantling Software AG after taking it private, a process that also moved webMethods and StreamSets to IBM and Cumulocity elsewhere. The product survived the break-up intact, but it now sits with a much smaller owner whose other business is off-highway vehicle telematics, so the enterprise integration story that came with Software AG is gone. Buyers are process engineers and reliability teams in chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and metals, usually where an expensive historian already exists and nobody can get answers out of it quickly. The trade-off is scope. TrendMiner is genuinely good at continuous time series and genuinely poor at anything else: it will not do discrete manufacturing counts, it will not model relational quality data well, and it will not replace an MES. It is a tool for a specific person doing a specific job, and organisations that buy it as a general analytics platform end up with a small number of very happy engineers and a licence bill sized for a department.
