What ImproMed does

ImproMed, sold as ImproMed Infinity, is a Windows practice management system that runs on a practice server with a SQL database. Its strengths are the areas small cloud products treat lightly: multi-location inventory with reorder points and vendor price comparison, detailed production reporting by veterinary surgeon and by service, wellness plan management, laboratory and imaging integration, and financial reporting that a practice manager can reconcile properly. It is used by larger general practices, referral hospitals and small groups that have outgrown lighter systems. The ownership picture is what a buyer needs to understand. ImproMed belongs to Covetrus, which also owns AVImark and RxWorks, and Covetrus markets Pulse as its strategic cloud platform. Covetrus itself was formed in 2019 from Henry Schein Animal Health and Vets First Choice, and was taken private by CD&R and TPG in 2022. A portfolio holding three legacy practice management systems and one strategic cloud product will not fund all four at the same rate indefinitely. That does not make ImproMed a bad system today; it makes the release cadence, the support commitment and the migration terms to Pulse things to get in writing before signing. The buyers are established hospitals with real inventory value on the shelf and enough transaction volume that reporting quality matters more than interface fashion. The trade-off is infrastructure and roadmap. You own a server, a database and a backup regime, remote access needs work to be usable, and the strategic direction of the vendor points somewhere other than where you are standing.

It is a server-based Windows product, so the practice owns the hardware, the SQL database, the patching and the backup regime, and those costs never appear in the software quotation.
Covetrus markets Pulse as its strategic cloud platform while holding three legacy practice management systems, so ask directly what development ImproMed still receives and get the support commitment and end-of-life notice period in writing.
Remote and mobile access is weak compared with cloud systems, which matters for on-call work, home record review and multi-site groups sharing patients.
The interface is dense and dated, and training a new receptionist or technician on it takes materially longer than on a modern cloud system.
If Covetrus does steer customers to Pulse, the migration is a full data conversion with retraining, so the cost of the eventual move should be priced into the decision now rather than later.
