Nmbrs

Dutch and Swedish payroll and HR sold largely through accountants, owned by Visma since 2017

As of 31 August 2026, Nmbrs's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A cloud payroll engine that genuinely files Dutch wage tax returns and pension declarations rather than aggregating through a partner, distributed mainly by accountancy firms rather than sold direct. Softwr lists it under Payroll. Nmbrs is made by Nmbrs, part of Visma, available on Web, iOS, Android.

Overview

What Nmbrs does

Nmbrs is an Amsterdam-built payroll and HR platform providing salary calculation, payslips, wage tax filing, pension fund reporting and employee self service. It serves the Netherlands and Sweden, and it has been part of the Visma group, the Nordic business software consolidator, since 2017. It is a genuine national payroll engine, and that distinction decides liability. Nmbrs calculates Dutch payroll against the current wage tax tables, produces and submits the loonaangifte to the Belastingdienst, handles pension fund and sector scheme declarations, and manages the collective labour agreement rules that Dutch employment depends on. That is a different product from a global platform that collects your data and hands it to a Dutch bureau, where the calculation and the filing obligation sit with a party you never contracted with. The same applies to its Swedish payroll. Outside those two countries it does nothing at all. The distribution model is the second thing to understand. Most customers do not buy from Nmbrs directly; they come through an accountancy or payroll administration firm that runs the software on their behalf and resells it, which means the price is set by the intermediary and the support you receive is theirs rather than the vendor. Buyers are Dutch small and mid-sized employers and the accountancy firms that serve them. The trade-off is reach: an international group can only use it for its Dutch and Swedish entities and will need other systems everywhere else.

What people use it for

  • A Dutch company that wants payroll calculated and filed in-country rather than routed through an international aggregator
  • An accountancy firm running payroll for dozens of client companies from one workspace
  • A Dutch subsidiary of an international group that needs correct CAO and pension fund handling
  • An HR or time tracking vendor that needs a documented API to push hours and changes into Dutch payroll

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Nmbrs.

  • Coverage is the Netherlands and Sweden only, so any international group will run Nmbrs alongside other payroll systems and reconcile them manually.
  • Most customers buy through an accountancy or payroll bureau, which means the price, the service level and the escalation path are set by an intermediary rather than by Visma.
  • English documentation and support lag behind the Dutch material, which slows down international finance teams trying to understand what a declaration actually contains.
  • The HR modules are basic next to a dedicated HRIS, so companies typically pair Nmbrs with another system and maintain an integration between them.
  • Ownership by Visma places it inside a large portfolio with overlapping payroll products, and buyers should ask where Nmbrs sits in that portfolio before committing to a long contract.

Cross-shopped

What people choose instead of Nmbrs

Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Does Nmbrs actually file Dutch payroll taxes?

Yes. It calculates wage tax and submits the loonaangifte to the Belastingdienst, along with pension fund and sector scheme declarations. It is not an aggregator passing data to a bureau.

Which countries does it cover?

The Netherlands and Sweden. Nowhere else.

Do I buy it direct or through an accountant?

Both are possible, but most Dutch customers come through an accountancy or payroll administration firm, and the price and support come from that firm.

Who owns Nmbrs?

Visma, the Nordic business software group, acquired it in 2017.
