Payactiv: If you want deeper HCM integration coverage across 70-plus payroll systems

Digital wallet and Mastercard debit card bundled with fee-free earned wage access for US workers
As of 1 September 2026, Branch App is free to use. An on-demand pay app built around its own digital wallet and physical debit card rather than sitting on top of an employee's existing bank account, positioning as fee-free for both workers and employers. Softwr lists it under Payroll. Branch App is made by Branch Messenger, available on Web, iOS, Android.
Overview
Branch lets employees whose employer has opted in draw up to 50 percent of earned wages on demand, with funds landing in a Branch-branded digital wallet backed by an FDIC-insured account within seconds, spendable via a Mastercard debit card or transferred out. Beyond wage access it offers automatic savings, cashless tipping, mileage tracking and spending insight tools. The distinguishing move is the Branch Embedded product: rather than only selling directly to employers, Branch licenses a lightweight, revenue-sharing version of its wage access and paycard infrastructure that other software platforms can build into their own product under their own brand. That means a company might be offering "earned wage access" through a payroll or gig platform without the word Branch appearing anywhere, which is worth knowing when comparing vendors, since the underlying processor may be the same regardless of brand. Buyers are US employers, particularly in healthcare, retail and hospitality, plus software platforms wanting to embed pay-related features without becoming a payments company themselves. The trade-off is that value depends on adoption of the Branch wallet and card; workers who only want funds in their existing bank account rather than a new Branch-branded account get a narrower version of the benefit.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Branch App.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.
