On-demand pay, off-cycle payments and digital tips for US hourly employers

As of 1 September 2026, Immediate's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Immediate is made by Immediate Financial Inc, available on Web, iOS, Android.

Overview

What Immediate does

Immediate gives employees of participating US employers access to wages already earned, calculated from payroll and time data and recovered by deduction at the next run. Beyond the core advance, it disburses tips digitally, runs off-cycle payments such as termination pay or bonuses, and offers pay cards for unbanked staff. It joined the American Fintech Council in 2025, part of a wider industry effort to get earned wage access recognised as distinct from lending. The distinguishing point is scope rather than the advance itself. Employers in restaurants and hospitality often have a genuine cash tip problem: distributing tips at the end of a shift is a cash handling, security and reconciliation burden, and Immediate replaces it with a digital push. That bundle, tips plus advances plus off-cycle runs, is a stronger reason to buy than earned wage access alone, which is close to a commodity. Buyers are US employers with hourly and tipped workforces. The trade-off is supplier size: fewer pre-built payroll connectors than the largest providers, and the same structural issue that runs through the category, namely that the employee typically pays a fee for instant access while the employer pays little.

What people use it for

  • A restaurant group ending end-of-shift cash tip handouts and the cash handling that goes with it
  • An employer that must issue final pay quickly on termination in states with strict deadlines
  • A hotel or care operator with unbanked staff needing pay cards alongside wage access
  • A high-turnover hourly employer using same-day pay access as a recruiting message

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Immediate.

  • As with the whole category, the employee pays a fee for instant access, so a benefit sold internally as free to staff is not free to the staff using it.
  • It is a smaller provider than DailyPay or Payactiv, so the library of certified payroll and time system integrations is narrower and custom file work is more likely.
  • Earned wage access rules differ by US state and continue to change, which creates compliance work for multi-state employers that the vendor cannot remove.
  • Tips, off-cycle payments and advances are priced separately, so the apparent low headline cost fragments into several line items once you use the full bundle.
  • Pay card programmes attract regulatory and reputational scrutiny in the US, and an employer defaulting staff onto a card rather than a bank account risks complaints and state law problems.
