Lumar

Website intelligence platform, formerly DeepCrawl, that can fail a build on SEO and accessibility regressions

As of 31 August 2026, Lumar's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Lumar is the crawler previously sold as DeepCrawl, extended so that its tests can run inside a deployment pipeline and block a release that breaks indexability. Softwr lists it under SEO. Lumar is available on Web, API.

Overview

What Lumar does

Lumar is a London company founded in 2010, known as DeepCrawl until it rebranded in 2022. The product crawls large sites, compares crawls over time, and reports technical issues against indexability, site structure, page speed data and, since 2023, accessibility rules. Reports are organised so that regressions between crawls are the primary view rather than an absolute list of issues. The distinguishing capability is Protect, which runs crawl-based test suites automatically and can be wired into a continuous integration pipeline through the Automation Hub so that a deployment introducing noindex tags, broken canonicals or blocked resources fails the build. This moves SEO from monthly reporting to release gating, which is the only mechanism that reliably prevents technical regressions on sites that deploy weekly. The catch is that the value depends entirely on an engineering team agreeing to adopt the gate, and marketing teams cannot deliver that agreement by buying the licence. Buyers are enterprise and large mid-market sites with frequent deployments, often ecommerce or publishing, and pricing is based on URLs crawled per month. The trade-off is scope: there is no keyword, ranking or backlink data, so Lumar is bought alongside another subscription, and the crawl allowance is consumed quickly by full crawls of very large sites, which pushes teams towards partial crawls that then miss the regressions they bought the tool to catch.

What people use it for

  • A site deploying weekly that keeps shipping accidental noindex tags and blocked resources into production
  • Comparing crawls before and after a migration to prove what changed rather than what looks wrong now
  • Reporting accessibility and technical SEO issues from one crawl to satisfy two different internal owners
  • Prioritising a backlog of thousands of technical issues by estimated traffic impact rather than severity label

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Lumar.

  • The crawl allowance is measured in URLs per month, so full crawls of a large site exhaust it quickly and teams end up sampling, which is exactly how regressions escape.
  • It provides no keyword, ranking or backlink data, so it is always an addition to the SEO budget rather than a consolidation of it.
  • The pipeline gating that justifies the price needs engineering adoption, and a marketing budget cannot buy that agreement.
  • Log file analysis is not the core strength it is at Botify, so crawl budget diagnosis on very large sites is weaker.
  • The 2022 rebrand from DeepCrawl means much of the community knowledge, tutorials and older documentation is filed under the previous name.

Cross-shopped

What people choose instead of Lumar

Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Is Lumar the same as DeepCrawl?

Yes, the same company and product line, rebranded in 2022. Older tutorials under the DeepCrawl name still broadly apply.

Can it really block a deployment?

Yes, through Automation Hub integrated into your CI pipeline. Whether your engineering team accepts that gate is the real question.

Does it replace Screaming Frog?

For scheduled monitoring and pipeline testing, yes. For quick ad hoc crawls on a laptop, the desktop crawler remains faster and cheaper.
