What Happay does
Happay combines expense reporting, corporate cards, travel booking and analytics for Indian companies. It handles GST capture on invoices, statutory reimbursement categories, cash advance workflows and multi-level approvals, and it issues prepaid and credit-linked cards through partner banks. Its self-booking tool covers domestic and international air, hotel and rail with policy checks at the point of booking. The ownership history is what a buyer should weigh. CRED acquired Happay in 2021; in November 2024 MakeMyTrip agreed to acquire the expense management platform, brand and team from CRED. That places Happay inside an online travel agency, which strengthens travel content and negotiated rates but changes what the product is optimised for. An Indian company buying Happay purely for expense reporting is now buying from a travel company. Buyers are Indian enterprises and large SMEs that need GST-aware expense handling and rupee card issuance, which international vendors handle poorly. The trade-off is that the cards depend on partner bank relationships, and the product is largely India-specific, so it does not solve expense for a group with entities outside India.

Who owns Happay now?
MakeMyTrip. It agreed in November 2024 to acquire the expense management platform, brand and team from CRED, which had bought Happay in 2021.
Can it be used outside India?
It books international travel for Indian entities, but the expense and card sides are built for Indian tax and banking and do not serve foreign entities well.
Does Happay issue its own cards?
It issues cards through partner banks rather than under its own banking licence, so card terms follow the partner.
