tldraw

tldraw is both a standalone infinite canvas whiteboard and a developer SDK for building custom drawing applications. The web application provides unlimited canvas space for sketching, wireframing, diagramming, and brainstorming with pressure-sensitive drawing tools (pen, highlighter, eraser), shape tools (rectangles, circles, arrows, text), and basic collaboration. Self-hosted real-time multiplayer using a backend (e.g., using tldraw's cloud sync or custom WebSocket servers) enables teams to collaborate on the same canvas simultaneously. The application supports embedding media (YouTube, Figma, tweets) directly into drawings and includes DOM canvas rendering for accessibility. The underlying tldraw SDK is a React library and TypeScript framework enabling developers to build custom canvas applications (design tools, diagramming platforms, collaboration software) on top of tldraw's drawing engine. Runtime APIs and component customisation allow modifications without forking; custom shapes, tools, bindings, and UI themes integrate seamlessly. AI integration is explicitly supported; developers can build LLM-powered features (auto-layout, image generation, text suggestions) leveraging canvas state. The project is deployed at scale by Shopify, Google, Autodesk, and ClickUp for internal tools and customer-facing features. Dual licensing model: the tldraw application is free, but production SDK use requires a license key. Development is unrestricted; organisations pay for production deployments.
