Otter.ai: A larger and more established meeting transcription tool with a bigger free tier and wider integrations

AI meeting notes captured from the desktop app without sending a bot into the call
As of 31 August 2026, Supernormal has a free plan and paid plans start at $20/month. A meeting notes tool that records from your own machine rather than joining calls as a visible participant, which matters when a client or a legal team objects to a third-party bot. Softwr lists it under Productivity. Supernormal is available on Web, macOS, Windows, Chrome.
Overview
Supernormal captures meetings and produces structured notes, action items and summaries. The distinguishing mechanism is that the desktop application records from the machine rather than dialling into the meeting as a participant, so no extra attendee appears in the call and no one is prompted to admit a bot. Beyond notes, the current version generates documents, presentations, images and spreadsheets from meeting content, positioning itself as a work-output tool rather than a transcript archive. The no-bot capture model is the reason to choose it. In client-facing work, regulated industries and any conversation involving external counsel, a visible recording bot triggers a consent conversation and often a refusal, and teams end up with no notes at all. Desktop capture removes the prompt, which is convenient and also an ethical question the buyer must answer: recording without a visible indicator does not remove the legal obligation to obtain consent in two-party consent jurisdictions, and the tool makes it easier to forget that. Pricing has moved to credits. The free tier gives fifteen credits a month with a five-a-day cap, Team is $20 a month for fifty credits and Business is $40 a month for the same fifty credits plus SSO, audit logs and data retention controls. Credit consumption varies by task complexity and is not published as a rate card, which means a heavy user cannot predict their bill and the two paid tiers differ in governance rather than in capacity. Buyers should treat that as the main commercial risk.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Supernormal.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Answered, with sources
Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.
No. It captures from the desktop application, so no additional participant appears in the call. That is its main differentiator.
Free gives 15 credits a month capped at 5 a day. Team is $20 a month and Business is $40 a month, both with 50 credits.
Credits are consumed by tasks and usage varies with complexity. The vendor does not publish per-task rates, which is the weak point of the pricing model.
Yes. Removing the visible bot does not remove the legal requirement in jurisdictions that require all parties to consent. Treat the absence of a prompt as a compliance risk, not a feature.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Supernormal, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish.
