Bonsai: Deeper feature set and better reporting across the same all in one freelance workflow, with no free tier

Freelance workflow suite covering proposals, contracts, invoices and time tracking with a usable free tier
As of 31 August 2026, Indy is free to use. Indy is one of the few all in one freelance suites with a genuinely usable free tier, which makes it the low risk way to test whether a bundle suits you at all. Softwr lists it under Proposals. Indy is available on Web, iOS, Android.
Overview
Indy provides proposals, contracts, invoices, time tracking, task management, a calendar, file storage and a client portal for independent workers, with a free tier that allows a limited number of documents per month and a paid tier that removes the caps. Its contract library covers common freelance arrangements with clause level editing rather than a single fixed template. What distinguishes it commercially is the free tier. Every competitor in the all in one freelance category asks for a subscription before the freelancer has any revenue, which is the worst possible moment to ask. Indy lets a new freelancer send real proposals and signed contracts at no cost, and only charges once volume grows. For anyone testing whether a bundled workflow suits them at all, that removes the cost of finding out. The buyers are new and part time freelancers, and established ones with low document volume. The trade offs are that the project management and reporting are thin next to dedicated tools, that the free tier caps are low enough to force an upgrade fairly quickly on active work, and that payments run through a third party gateway whose fee applies in addition to the subscription.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Indy.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Yes, for real signed contracts and invoices, but it caps documents per month and active freelancers hit that fairly quickly.
The payment gateway charges its standard card fee. That is separate from the subscription and should be modelled per invoice.
Only lightly. The task and project features are the weakest part of the product.
They are standard freelance templates with editable clauses. They are a starting point, not legal advice for your jurisdiction.
Agencies, anyone with subcontractors, and freelancers who need real project management or detailed profitability reporting.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Indy, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
