Square for Restaurants: Hardware bought outright, published processing rates and no long term contract

Cloud point of sale for hospitality and retail sold with hardware finance and attached payment processing
As of 31 August 2026, Epos Now's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A British cloud POS sold cheaply upfront through telesales, with the economics sitting in the card processing rate and in hardware financed through a separate agreement. Softwr lists it under Restaurants. Epos Now is available on Web, iOS, Android, Windows.
Overview
Epos Now supplies cloud point of sale software and terminals to hospitality and retail businesses, mostly small independents, across the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States and Australia. The system covers till operations, menu and product management, staff logins, stock, reporting and an application store of third party add ons, with payment processing offered by the vendor. The commercial mechanics matter more than the feature list. Hardware is frequently supplied under a finance or lease arrangement with a third party rather than sold outright, and card processing is contracted separately from the software subscription. That produces three agreements with different termination terms attached to one till, and a merchant who stops using the software can remain liable for equipment payments for the remainder of a multi year term. Several years of published customer complaints centre on exactly this structure rather than on the software itself. Buyers are small independent restaurants, cafes, bars and shops attracted by low entry cost and a quick install. The trade off is due diligence. The product is adequate for straightforward hospitality operations, but the contract stack deserves a careful read, and buyers should compare the effective blended card rate over a year against the headline monthly software figure, which is usually the smaller number by a wide margin.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Epos Now.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Answered, with sources
Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.
Frequently financed through a third party agreement rather than bought outright. Ask explicitly which it is and read the term before signing.
You can stop the subscription, but a separate hardware finance agreement continues to its own end date, and processing is contracted separately again.
It is the commercial basis of the pricing. Using another acquirer, where permitted, changes the software quote.
It handles straightforward hospitality service. Complex coursing, large table management and high volume kitchens are better served by restaurant specific systems.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Epos Now, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
