ActiveCampaign: Cheaper entry pricing and a larger automation feature set for small teams without commerce integration needs

UK-listed email and cross-channel marketing platform with deep Adobe Commerce and Dynamics connectors
As of 31 August 2026, Dotdigital's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Dotdigital is a publicly listed British marketing platform, which means you can read its accounts before signing a multi-year contract, a check no privately held rival allows. Softwr lists it under Email Marketing. Dotdigital is made by Dotdigital Group plc, available on Web, REST API.
Overview
Dotdigital, formerly dotmailer, sells email, SMS, push and chat marketing with a customer data layer and a visual automation builder. It trades on the London Stock Exchange AIM market, and the business is concentrated in the United Kingdom, continental Europe and Australia, with regional data centres so customer data can be kept in the region a buyer requires. The product is deliberately mid-market rather than enterprise: it does the common ecommerce and B2B lifecycle programmes well and does not attempt the orchestration complexity of a customer engagement platform. The distinguishing asset is integration depth. The Adobe Commerce and Shopify connectors sync catalogue, order and abandoned basket data with enough fidelity to build revenue-attributed programmes without middleware, and the Microsoft Dynamics 365 connector is one of the few certified two-way integrations in this category, which regularly decides deals inside Microsoft-committed organisations. Being listed matters commercially too: revenue, churn commentary and cash position are public every six months, which is a genuine input to a three-year platform decision. Buyers are mid-market ecommerce and B2B marketing teams, often with a small marketing operations function and no developer. The trade-off is ceiling rather than capability. Teams that grow into real-time behavioural orchestration, complex multi-channel journeys or heavy first-party data modelling eventually replace it, and the SMS and WhatsApp channels are separately billed add-ons rather than parts of the core licence.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Dotdigital.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Yes, if they remain in the account. Contact tiers count stored contacts, so suppression lists still consume allowance until records are removed.
For scheduled and behavioural ecommerce and B2B programmes, yes. For real-time cross-channel orchestration at scale it is not competing in the same bracket.
In the region contracted, with UK, EU, US and Australian hosting available, which is why it appears on European shortlists with residency requirements.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Dotdigital, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
