Spanning Backup: Spanning Backup for a simpler per-user Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace backup

Microsoft 365, Dynamics and Salesforce backup from a long-standing Microsoft partner
As of 1 September 2026, AvePoint Cloud Backup's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A SaaS backup product covering Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Salesforce, Google Workspace and Entra ID from a vendor that has built Microsoft 365 tooling for two decades. Softwr lists it under Backup. AvePoint Cloud Backup is made by AvePoint, available on Web.
Overview
AvePoint Cloud Backup protects Microsoft 365 workloads including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams and Groups, along with Dynamics 365, Salesforce, Google Workspace and Microsoft Entra ID objects. Backups run up to several times daily with granular restore down to individual items, and storage can be AvePoint-managed or your own Azure or Amazon S3 tenancy. The distinguishing point is the surrounding portfolio. AvePoint sells migration, information governance, records management and permission auditing for the same Microsoft estate, so an organisation running a tenant consolidation after an acquisition can buy backup, migration and governance from one vendor with one permissions model. For an IT team that would otherwise run three products against the same tenant, that consolidation matters more than any individual backup feature. Buyers are mid-market and enterprise Microsoft 365 customers, education and public sector organisations. The trade-off is pricing opacity and storage custody. AvePoint does not publish a rate; pricing is per user with variation by data volume, and whether the encryption keys and storage account are yours or AvePoint's is a configuration decision that determines who can actually read your backup data. That question should be settled before signing, because retrofitting bring-your-own-storage after a rollout is a migration.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about AvePoint Cloud Backup.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Yes, bring your own Azure or Amazon S3 storage is supported. Decide this before rollout, because moving to it afterwards is a migration.
No. Native retention covers deletion within limited windows and does not provide point-in-time restore of arbitrary items after those windows expire.
Per user, varying by protected data volume, quoted rather than published. Ask for the volume assumption behind the per-user figure.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for AvePoint Cloud Backup, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
