What Everything does
Everything is a filename search utility for Windows that indexes NTFS volumes by reading the Master File Table directly rather than crawling directories. That is why it builds an index of an entire drive in seconds where conventional indexers take hours, and returns results faster than you can finish typing. It is deliberately narrow: it searches names, not file contents. For anyone who has waited on Windows Search, that trade is usually the right one.
