What GParted does
GParted is a graphical partition editor for creating, resizing, moving, copying and checking disk partitions. It supports most common filesystems and is the tool most Linux users reach for when disk layout needs changing. Its most useful form is the live CD or USB image, which boots independently of any installed operating system. Partitions in use cannot safely be modified, so resizing a system drive generally requires booting from something else — which is exactly what the live image provides.
