Transmission: If you want the lightest resource use and the simplest interface of the three

Free open source BitTorrent client with a built in search tab and no thin-client remote mode
As of 1 September 2026, qBittorrent is free to use. A free, open source, cross-platform torrent client with a Qt-based interface and a built in search tab that queries multiple torrent search engines directly from the app. Softwr lists it under Utilities. qBittorrent is made by qBittorrent (open source project), available on Mac, Windows, Linux.
Overview
qBittorrent handles torrent downloading and seeding with a full desktop interface covering categories, sequential downloading, bandwidth scheduling, RSS-based automatic downloading and an integrated search tab that queries several torrent search engines without leaving the app. It also has a web UI for remote access when run headless. Against its two closest free rivals, the differentiators are practical rather than about price, since all three cost nothing. qBittorrent has the built in search tab that neither Transmission nor Deluge offers out of the box. Deluge, by contrast, has genuine thin-client architecture, letting a lightweight local client connect to a daemon running on another machine with full control, which qBittorrent does not natively support without third party tools. Transmission runs as a single simple daemon with a built in web UI and is generally the lightest on resources of the three, while qBittorrent comfortably handles a few hundred active torrents but its web UI can start to lag past around a thousand. Buyers, in the sense of adopters, are users who want search built into the client itself and a fuller desktop feature set without paying anything. The trade-off is resource use at scale and weaker remote or headless operation compared with Deluge specifically, so a user running a dedicated seedbox or NAS often prefers Transmission or Deluge instead.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about qBittorrent.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Yes, entirely, and it is open source with no paid tier or ads.
Yes, a search tab queries multiple torrent search engines directly inside the app, which Transmission and Deluge do not offer by default.
Yes, via its web UI, though Deluge specific thin-client mode gives more complete remote control for a dedicated daemon setup.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for qBittorrent, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
