The short version

  • Each has a real cost: Jenesis Software the base fee is charged per physical agency location rather than per organisation, so an agency with three small branches pays three base fees on top of every seat and the effective cost per user rises sharply as it opens offices.; Verisk the ISO content has no real substitute for a carrier writing standard lines, so renewal negotiations start from a position where walking away is not credible.
  • They diverge on capability: Jenesis Software covers ACORD form library, Verisk covers ISO forms and rating content.

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Jenesis Software

  • The base fee is charged per physical agency location rather than per organisation, so an agency with three small branches pays three base fees on top of every seat and the effective cost per user rises sharply as it opens offices.
  • Carrier download coverage is narrower than Applied Epic or Vertafore AMS360, so agencies with a long tail of regional carriers keep manually entering policies for the carriers Jenesis does not support and never reach a clean single source of policy data.
  • Reporting is limited to fixed operational reports, so an agency that wants book of business analysis by producer, carrier profitability or retention cohorts has to export data and build it in a spreadsheet each month.
  • There is no accounting general ledger, so agency bill trust accounting is reconciled in QuickBooks or similar alongside the system and the two records drift unless someone reconciles them deliberately.
  • Export options for a full data extract are constrained, which makes migrating away or being acquired by a larger agency a manual data project rather than a supported handover, and this only becomes visible at the point of exit.

Verisk

  • The ISO content has no real substitute for a carrier writing standard lines, so renewal negotiations start from a position where walking away is not credible.
  • Pricing is negotiated separately per product and per line, and large insurers routinely find overlapping agreements across underwriting, claims and actuarial that nobody had counted together.
  • Circular updates to forms and loss costs must be loaded into your policy system on a schedule, which is recurring work that carriers with older platforms do partly by hand.
  • The breadth of the portfolio means account management is spread across product teams, so a problem in one service does not necessarily get attention from the people selling you another.
  • Usage-based components such as data prefill and claims searches make annual spend hard to forecast, and the variance lands in the year you grow fastest.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

Jenesis Software: Does Jenesis publish its price?

Yes. JenesisNow Basic is roughly 50 US dollars per user per month and Pro roughly 70, which is unusual in agency management systems. What is not published is the base fee charged per physical agency location, and you must ask for that figure before comparing.

Verisk: Can a carrier avoid ISO content entirely?

Only by developing and filing proprietary forms and rates, which a handful of large insurers do. For everyone else the filing and legal cost of independence exceeds the licence.

Jenesis Software: Can it replace Applied Epic or AMS360?

Only for small agencies. It lacks the accounting, benefits, surplus lines and reporting depth those systems carry, and most agencies migrating up rather than down leave Jenesis somewhere around twenty staff.

Verisk: Is Xactimate part of Verisk?

Yes. It came with the Xactware acquisition and is the dominant property claims estimating tool in North America, used by carriers and by the contractors they pay.

Jenesis Software: Does it do comparative rating?

No. It passes data to third party raters such as EZLynx rather than producing carrier quotes itself, so you still licence a rater separately.

Verisk: Did Verisk sell off businesses?

Yes. It divested non-insurance units including its energy research business in 2023 and refocused on insurance data and analytics.

Jenesis Software: Is agency accounting included?

Only receipting, invoicing and basic receivables. There is no general ledger, so trust accounting is normally kept in a separate accounting package.
