Trulioo

Identity and business verification against national data sources in nearly 200 countries

As of 1 September 2026, Trulioo's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Verifies people and companies by matching supplied details against authoritative registries rather than by scanning a document. Softwr lists it under Cybersecurity. Trulioo is available on Web, API.

Overview

What Trulioo does

Trulioo runs identity verification through a single API that routes to hundreds of underlying data sources: credit bureaux, telco records, electoral rolls, government registries and commercial databases. It also verifies businesses, resolving legal entities, registration status and ultimate beneficial ownership across roughly a hundred and fifty jurisdictions. Document and biometric verification are available, but the data-source route is the historical core. The distinction matters commercially. Document scanning requires a user with a passport or driving licence and a decent phone camera. Data-source verification requires only a name, address and date of birth, which is faster, cheaper per check and works for populations where document capture has poor completion rates. In practice most regulated buyers use both: data first because it is cheap and frictionless, document only when data fails. Buyers are payment firms, banks, crypto platforms and marketplaces onboarding across many countries. The trade-off is coverage variance. Trulioo aggregates other people data, so quality is a function of what sources exist in each market, and a country listed as covered may have thin or slow sources behind it. The right diligence is to test your actual top five countries, not to read the coverage map.

What people use it for

  • A payments firm onboarding across dozens of countries where building a data-source integration per market is impractical
  • A marketplace verifying business sellers and needing beneficial ownership rather than just a company number
  • A fintech wanting a cheap frictionless first check and reserving document scanning for the minority that fail it
  • A bank expanding into a market where document upload completion rates are poor and registry matching works better

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Trulioo.

  • Per-check rates vary widely by country and data source, so a blended average from the sales conversation misleads if your volume concentrates in expensive markets.
  • Coverage breadth is real but depth is uneven; a country on the map may be served by one thin source with low match rates, which you only discover in a live test.
  • You are charged per query including no-match results, so a market with poor source coverage burns budget producing nothing usable.
  • Because it aggregates third-party data, data residency and consent handling depend on the underlying provider terms, which complicates GDPR assessments in some jurisdictions.
  • Document and biometric capability is competent but not the strongest in the market, so buyers whose primary need is document fraud detection usually pair it with a specialist.

What people choose instead of Trulioo

Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Does it need a document?

Not for the core product. Data-source matching uses name, address and date of birth, which is why completion rates are higher than document flows.

Are unmatched queries billed?

Yes, in general you pay per query rather than per successful match. Negotiate this explicitly if you are entering markets with thin coverage.

Can it verify companies as well as people?

Yes. Business verification including beneficial ownership is a distinct product line and a common reason to choose Trulioo over document-first vendors.
