What Overflow does
Overflow is a donation platform for churches and nonprofits that specialises in non-cash giving: publicly traded stock, cryptocurrency, donor-advised fund grants, ACH and cards, plus round-up giving. Donors connect a brokerage account and transfer shares in a few steps rather than filling in a paper stock transfer form, and the organisation receives cash after liquidation with the gift already attributed to the donor record. The commercial logic is tax, not technology. A donor who sells appreciated stock and donates the proceeds pays capital gains tax first; a donor who transfers the shares does not, which means the same after-tax cost to the donor produces a larger gift. Historically the friction of processing a stock gift was so high that only major donors bothered, and finance teams handled each one manually. Overflow reduces that to a self-service flow, which is why churches use it to open a giving channel they previously only offered to the top of the file. Pricing is published and varies sharply by asset. The Foundation plan is 50 US dollars a month with cards at 2.75 percent plus 30 cents, ACH at 0.50 percent plus 20 cents, stock and DAF transfers between 1 and 3 percent depending on route, and crypto carrying an additional 3 percent.
