Starbucks: If you want a comparable loyalty and mobile order app from a different quick service chain

McDonald's mobile ordering and MyMcDonald's Rewards app used to drive app-exclusive deals and first party data
As of 1 September 2026, McDonalds is free to use. The order-ahead, drive-thru and delivery app for McDonald's, built around MyMcDonald's Rewards points and app-only deals. Softwr lists it under Utilities. McDonalds is made by McDonald's Corporation, available on iOS, Android.
Overview
The McDonald's app supports mobile ordering for pickup, drive-thru or curbside, in-app payment, and MyMcDonald's Rewards, which awards 100 points per dollar spent redeemable for free menu items at set point thresholds. It regularly features app-exclusive discounted items not available at the counter. The commercial reason app-only deals exist is data and channel control. Every app order gives McDonald's and its franchisees purchase-level data that a cash or card counter transaction does not, and the app is one of the channels McDonald's uses to reduce dependence on third-party delivery marketplaces whose commissions cut into franchisee margin. App-exclusive pricing is a direct incentive to move volume into the channel the company controls and can measure. Buyers are regular customers willing to trade phone number, order history and location data (used for geofenced drive-thru order timing) for point accumulation and periodic discounted or free items. The trade-off is that skipping the app means missing app-only deals that are increasingly common, effectively a loyalty tax on customers who prefer not to use it.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about McDonalds.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for McDonalds, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
