Account to account payment API for ACH, RTP and FedNow with pay by bank and instant payment routing
As of 31 August 2026, Dwolla's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Dwolla is a long-running US bank payments API that now orchestrates across ACH, the RTP network and FedNow, choosing a rail based on the receiving bank. Softwr lists it under APIs. Dwolla is made by Dwolla, Inc., available on Web.
Overview
Dwolla provides an API for moving money between US bank accounts. It covers standard and same-day ACH, the RTP network, and the Federal Reserve FedNow service, which it added through its banking partner, roughly doubling the number of institutions reachable by instant payment. Its Balance product orchestrates between the instant rails automatically, selecting whichever network the receiving bank supports rather than making the developer decide. It also handles bank account verification, either instantly through open banking connections or by micro-deposit, and provides webhooks, reconciliation and reporting around the transfers. What distinguishes Dwolla commercially is age and focus. It has been doing bank transfers since well before pay by bank became fashionable, it is not a card processor and does not try to be, and it does not sell deposit accounts or card issuing, so it avoids the sponsor bank programme complexity that surrounds banking as a service vendors. The corresponding limitation is that it does only this, so a company that also needs accounts, cards or ledgering is buying more than one vendor. Buyers are B2B software platforms, insurance and lending companies, property management and payroll systems, and anyone paying out to bank accounts at volume where card fees would be unacceptable. Dwolla publishes no prices at all: the pricing page says custom pricing built around how you move money, tailored to volume, rails and integration. That means every number in your business case comes from a sales conversation, and buyers should establish the monthly platform fee and any minimum before discussing per-transaction cost.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Dwolla.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

It does not publish anything. Pricing is custom and built around volume, rails and integration. Establish the monthly platform fee and any minimum before negotiating per-transaction rates.
Yes, through both the RTP network and the FedNow Service, with automatic selection based on the receiving bank. Where neither is supported, payments fall back to ACH.
No. It is a payments platform that works through banking partners. It does not offer deposit accounts or card issuing.
Either instantly through open banking connections or by micro-deposit verification, which takes a day or two but works where instant linking fails.
