Benchling: A single natively built platform rather than an acquired portfolio, if coherence matters more than breadth

Research informatics group behind GraphPad Prism, SnapGene, Geneious and LabArchives, now owned by Siemens
As of 31 August 2026, Dotmatics's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Less a single product than a portfolio assembled by acquisition, including GraphPad Prism, SnapGene, Geneious, LabArchives and Protein Metrics. Softwr lists it under Research. Dotmatics is made by Dotmatics (Siemens Digital Industries Software), available on Web, Windows, macOS, On-premise.
Overview
Dotmatics sells scientific software across the discovery workflow: an informatics platform for chemistry and biology registration, assay data and ELN, plus a large catalogue of individually bought desktop and web applications. GraphPad Prism for statistics, SnapGene for molecular cloning, Geneious Prime for sequence analysis, FCS Express and OMIQ for flow cytometry, Protein Metrics for proteomics, LabArchives for lab notebooks and nQuery for trial design are all Dotmatics brands, though most of their users have no idea of it. The fact that changes a shortlist is the ownership. Siemens closed its acquisition on 1 July 2025 for an enterprise value of 5.1 billion dollars and placed Dotmatics inside its Digital Industries Software business, alongside its product lifecycle management portfolio. Siemens has stated expectations of substantial revenue synergies, which in practice means pressure to sell the individual tools into a platform. Anyone renewing a single-seat Prism or SnapGene licence is now buying from an industrial software conglomerate with a stated strategy of integration. Buyers range from an individual postdoc buying one Prism licence to a pharmaceutical company licensing the informatics platform across thousands of scientists. The trade off is portfolio coherence: the products were acquired separately, are still priced separately, and integrate with each other to varying and sometimes disappointing degrees.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Dotmatics.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Benchling: A single natively built platform rather than an acquired portfolio, if coherence matters more than breadth

LabArchives: Worth naming explicitly because it is itself a Dotmatics brand and can be bought on its own for notebook-only needs

Sapio Sciences: Choose it if you want one configurable system across ELN, LIMS and assay data instead of assembling several tools

Siemens, which completed a 5.1 billion dollar acquisition on 1 July 2025. Dotmatics now sits inside Siemens Digital Industries Software.
Yes. So are SnapGene, Geneious, LabArchives, FCS Express, OMIQ, Protein Metrics, SoftGenetics and nQuery.
To varying degrees. They were acquired separately and integration across the portfolio is uneven, so verify the specific pair you care about before assuming it.
No. The informatics platform is quoted per user per year with modules and services scoped separately.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Dotmatics, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
