The short version

  • Each has a real cost: Dotmatics the portfolio was assembled by acquisition and integration between the constituent products is uneven, so buying several Dotmatics brands does not deliver a single connected environment and often means the same manual export steps as before.; Labguru ownership changed twice in short order, to Battery Ventures in 2024 and then into the Cenevo brand with Titian Software in 2025, so the medium-term roadmap is a group strategy decision rather than a product one and buyers should ask directly what happens to the notebook.
  • They diverge on capability: Dotmatics covers Dotmatics platform, Labguru covers Combined ELN and LIMS.
  • Prices and features above were last checked on 31 August 2026.

What people use each for

The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.

Dotmatics

  • A pharmaceutical company consolidating compound registration, assay data and biology screening onto one informatics layernot Labguru
  • A biotech that already owns Prism, SnapGene and Geneious separately and wants to understand what a group contract would covernot Labguru
  • A university licensing LabArchives across departments as an institutional electronic lab notebooknot Labguru
  • A biologics group needing sequence analysis, flow cytometry and proteomics tools from one supplier with a single procurement routenot Labguru

Labguru

  • A biotech that wants experiment records and sample inventory in one system instead of paying for an ELN and a LIMS separatelynot Dotmatics
  • A chemistry group needing structure registration attached to the experiment rather than in a standalone databasenot Dotmatics
  • A contract research organisation that must show sample traceability from receipt to reported result during a client auditnot Dotmatics
  • An academic institute standardising dozens of small labs off shared spreadsheets and paper notebooks onto one searchable recordnot Dotmatics

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Dotmatics

  • The portfolio was assembled by acquisition and integration between the constituent products is uneven, so buying several Dotmatics brands does not deliver a single connected environment and often means the same manual export steps as before.
  • The Siemens acquisition completed in July 2025 with stated revenue synergy targets, which usually translates into pressure to move individually bought desktop licences into larger platform agreements, and small buyers of a single Prism or SnapGene seat should expect that pressure at renewal.
  • Nothing about the enterprise platform is publicly priced, and even the individual applications are increasingly moved to subscription, so total cost across a research group is hard to establish before negotiation.
  • Each acquired product retains its own licence terms, support channel and release cycle, so an organisation using four Dotmatics brands manages four different renewal dates, entitlement models and support experiences.
  • Enterprise deployments require data migration and configuration services, and validated instances for regulated use add both cost and an ongoing customer revalidation duty after each release, so the informatics platform is a programme rather than a purchase.

Labguru

  • Ownership changed twice in short order, to Battery Ventures in 2024 and then into the Cenevo brand with Titian Software in 2025, so the medium-term roadmap is a group strategy decision rather than a product one and buyers should ask directly what happens to the notebook.
  • The validated GxP hosting option is a separate commercial line, not a configuration setting, so a lab that discovers mid-project that it needs a validated instance faces a new contract and a new price rather than an upgrade.
  • Being both an ELN and a LIMS means it is shallower than dedicated tools in each role; high-throughput sample management and deep bioinformatics workflows both hit limits that a specialist would not.
  • No pricing is published at all, and modules such as chemistry, batch records and equipment are quoted on top, so the real annual figure only appears after a sales process.
  • Validation, SOPs and periodic revalidation after vendor releases are the customer obligation on a regulated instance, and cloud release cadence means that revalidation is a recurring internal cost that never appears on the vendor quote.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

Dotmatics: Who owns Dotmatics?

Siemens, which completed a 5.1 billion dollar acquisition on 1 July 2025. Dotmatics now sits inside Siemens Digital Industries Software.

Labguru: Who owns Labguru now?

Battery Ventures acquired it in April 2024. Since July 2025 it operates under the Cenevo brand following a merger with Titian Software.

Dotmatics: Is GraphPad Prism a Dotmatics product?

Yes. So are SnapGene, Geneious, LabArchives, FCS Express, OMIQ, Protein Metrics, SoftGenetics and nQuery.

Labguru: Is it an ELN or a LIMS?

Both, in one product. That is the main reason labs choose it, and also why it is shallower than a specialist in each role.

Dotmatics: Do the products work together?

To varying degrees. They were acquired separately and integration across the portfolio is uneven, so verify the specific pair you care about before assuming it.

Labguru: Does it support GxP work?

Yes, through a separately contracted validated cloud instance. Validation for your intended use remains your responsibility.

Dotmatics: Is enterprise pricing published?

No. The informatics platform is quoted per user per year with modules and services scoped separately.

Labguru: Is pricing published?

No. It is quoted per user per year, with modules and validated hosting priced on top.
