Freight visibility network that tracks loads across carriers using ELD, telematics and driver mobile data
As of 1 September 2026, Descartes MacroPoint's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Its value is the carrier network, not the software: MacroPoint has already onboarded a very large share of North American truckload carriers, so tracking coverage starts high on day one instead of after a year of carrier chasing. Softwr lists it under Logistics. Descartes MacroPoint is made by The Descartes Systems Group Inc., available on Web, iOS, Android.
Overview
Descartes MacroPoint provides real-time freight visibility for shippers, brokers and third-party logistics providers. It obtains location from carrier ELD and telematics providers, from carrier TMS integrations, and from driver mobile phones where no telematics exist, then normalises it into tracked shipments with estimated arrival times, dwell monitoring and exception alerts. It also covers ocean, rail, parcel and less-than-truckload, and links into Descartes wider logistics network for capacity matching and document workflow. The fact that decides purchases here is network coverage, and it is not a software feature. Visibility platforms all read the same telematics feeds; what differs is how many carriers have already granted consent. MacroPoints North American truckload coverage is its main asset, and it means a broker gets usable tracking percentages immediately rather than spending months persuading carriers to connect. Descartes acquired MacroPoint in 2017 and has kept it as a named product within a much larger logistics software group, which is a stability argument and also means visibility competes for investment with dozens of other Descartes products. Who buys it: freight brokers and 3PLs first, shippers second, particularly those whose customers demand tracking as a condition of the contract. The trade-off is pricing opacity and mode bias. It is priced by load volume and mode with rates that fall sharply with scale, so a small broker pays materially more per load than a large one, and international ocean and air visibility is less mature than domestic truckload.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Descartes MacroPoint.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

A driver mobile app is used as a fallback, which depends on the driver agreeing to share location.
No, it covers ocean, rail, LTL and parcel too, but truckload in North America is where coverage is strongest.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Descartes MacroPoint, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish.
