What CargoWise does

CargoWise is WiseTech Global’s platform for freight forwarding, customs brokerage, warehousing and land transport. Its architectural claim is a single database and a single codebase across every country a forwarder operates in, so a shipment booked in Rotterdam, cleared in Los Angeles and delivered in Chicago is one record rather than three integrations. Customs compliance is built in for dozens of jurisdictions and maintained by WiseTech as regulations change, which is the functionality forwarders find hardest to replicate and the reason migration away is rare. The commercial model changed materially and recently. Until December 2025 CargoWise was licensed on the seat and transaction model in place since 2014. WiseTech then moved about 95 percent of customers to CargoWise Value Packs, bundling more than two hundred modules and unlimited users into a per-transaction automation fee, removing separate seat charges and standard cloud hosting costs. Reported per-transaction figures circulating among forwarders are around twenty dollars for a full import container with an inland leg and around ten dollars for a standalone customs entry, though WiseTech publishes no price list. Trade press has reported customer confusion over the first invoices under the model and enterprises facing large monthly increases at short notice. WiseTech’s own chief executive has acknowledged the change was disruptive. Buyers are international freight forwarders, customs brokers and 3PLs, and the largest global forwarders run on it. The trade-off is total cost and dependency. Enterprise implementations are commonly cited in the hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars with professional services accounting for a large share, the platform is deep enough that staff training is a standing cost, and now the pricing basis is transaction volume, meaning a good year for the business is automatically a more expensive year for the software.
