What ALICE Technologies does

ALICE takes a construction schedule, a set of recipes describing how each activity is built (crew composition, equipment, durations, precedence rules) and a resource pool, then generates large numbers of feasible execution sequences and scores them on duration, cost and resource profile. Instead of one critical path produced by a planner, the output is a set of alternatives showing what a different crew mix or a different pour sequence would do to the completion date. The commercially interesting use is not the original plan but recovery. When a project is late, ALICE is used to test whether adding a second crane, running a second shift or resequencing floors actually recovers the date, and by how much, before anyone commits the money. That is a question a scheduler with Primavera P6 can answer for two or three scenarios by hand and cannot answer for two hundred. Reported schedule acceleration figures around twenty per cent should be read as vendor and partner claims on selected projects, not as a general expectation. Buyers are large general contractors and owners on data centres, energy, infrastructure and industrial work, projects big enough that a week of float is worth six figures. The trade-off is input quality. ALICE only produces useful options if someone models the recipes accurately, and that modelling is skilled work that most contractors do not have staffed. In April 2026 McKinsey announced an alliance to take ALICE-based scheduling to its own clients, which tells you where the go-to-market now sits: consulting-led engagements on very large programmes rather than self-service software.

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about ALICE Technologies.

  • The output is only as good as the recipes, and building accurate recipes is specialist modelling work most contractors cannot staff, so engagements depend on ALICE or a consultant doing it, which turns software into a services contract.
  • Pricing is quoted per project or programme with no published rates, so the tool is effectively unavailable to anyone who cannot justify a bespoke enterprise negotiation.
  • It only pays back on projects where float has a high monetary value; on a mid-size commercial building the modelling effort exceeds the schedule saving, which is why the customer list skews to data centres, energy and heavy civils.
  • A generated schedule still has to be accepted by superintendents and subcontractors who did not build it, and adoption failures are usually social rather than technical: the field runs the plan it believes in.
  • The 2026 McKinsey alliance pushes distribution towards consulting-led engagements, which raises the effective cost of entry and makes the direct-purchase path less certain for a contractor that just wants a licence.
