Algolia: The hosted service Typesense is explicitly built as an alternative to
Overview
Typesense is an open-source search engine written in C++ that positions itself explicitly as an open-source alternative to Algolia. It focuses on instant search with typo tolerance, and on keeping the whole index in memory so queries return in tens of milliseconds. Compared with Elasticsearch it is deliberately narrow: it does search, not log analytics. Compared with Algolia it trades a fully managed service for the option to self-host and avoid per-search pricing, which is the usual reason teams migrate.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Typesense.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

The engine is open source and free to self-host. Typesense Cloud is a paid managed option.
Cost and control. Algolia charges per search and per record; Typesense can be self-hosted with no per-query fee, at the cost of running it yourself.
Yes, including hybrid search combining keyword and semantic matching in one query.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Typesense, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
