What Sitemark does
Sitemark is a solar-specific drone data platform. During construction it tracks progress across a defined set of activities, such as piling, torque tube installation and module mounting, by comparing drone imagery against the design layout and counting what is actually installed. After energisation the same platform runs thermal inspection flights to find failed modules, string outages and hotspots, and manages the resulting work tickets. What makes it worth separating from general drone analytics tools is that the whole data model is solar. It knows what a tracker row is, matches detected defects to specific module serial positions, and produces the as-built versus design comparison that a lender or an EPC contract actually requires at commissioning. A general photogrammetry platform gives you an orthomosaic and leaves the counting to a person. Buyers are EPC contractors, independent power producers and asset owners in utility-scale solar, headquartered work concentrated in Europe and increasingly the Middle East, Asia and North America. The company is based in Leuven, Belgium. The trade-off is that it is single-purpose. If a portfolio also contains wind, storage or substations, Sitemark covers only part of it, and pricing is packaged on number of sites and other factors rather than published per megawatt, so a portfolio of many small rooftop assets prices very differently from one large ground-mount plant.

The honest half
Where it falls short
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Sitemark.
- It only does solar, so a mixed renewables portfolio still needs a second platform for wind, storage and substations, and the consolidation argument for buying it collapses.
- Pricing is quoted on site count and unpublished variables, which penalises owners of many small distributed assets relative to one operator of a single large plant with the same total capacity.
- You still need someone to fly the site, and Sitemark does not remove the drone operator cost, permits or airspace constraints; it monetises the data after the flight.
- Automated progress counting depends on a clean, current design layout, and on projects where the layout changes weekly the comparison generates false deviations that erode trust in the numbers.
- Thermographic defect detection needs the plant producing at sufficient irradiance, so inspection windows in northern latitudes are narrow and a missed window pushes findings into the next season.
