Otter

Delivery order consolidation and menu management across marketplaces, owned by CloudKitchens

As of 31 August 2026, Otter's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Middleware that collapses DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub tablets into one screen and pushes orders into the POS. Softwr lists it under Restaurants. Otter is made by CloudKitchens, available on Web, iOS, Android.

Overview

What Otter does

Otter aggregates delivery marketplace orders onto a single device, syncs menus and item availability out to every connected channel, and injects orders into the point of sale so tickets print without manual re keying. It also sells a point of sale, a kitchen display, an analytics layer covering marketplace performance, and tools for running virtual brands out of an existing kitchen. The distinguishing fact is ownership rather than function. Otter belongs to CloudKitchens, the City Storage Systems business founded by Travis Kalanick, which leases delivery only kitchen space and has operated its own virtual brands. Buyers get a well funded product with deep marketplace relationships, and at the same time hand order level demand data to a landlord and occasional competitor. Every serious evaluation of order middleware should weigh that, because the alternatives are owned by neutral software companies. Buyers are delivery heavy independents, ghost kitchen tenants and small chains running several virtual brands from one kitchen. The trade off is dependency: once orders route through Otter, an outage there stops orders arriving even when the marketplaces are healthy, and the number of connected channels drives what you pay.

What people use it for

  • A kitchen running three or more delivery marketplaces that has run out of counter space for tablets
  • An operator launching virtual brands who needs several menus maintained from one place
  • A small chain that wants store pauses and item eighty sixes applied to every channel at once
  • A ghost kitchen tenant who needs marketplace orders landing in the POS for accurate sales reporting

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Otter.

  • The parent company operates delivery only kitchens and has run its own virtual brands, so your order and menu data sits with a business that can compete in the same delivery radius.
  • Pricing scales with the number of connected channels and locations, so the cost rises exactly in step with the delivery volume that makes the tool worth having.
  • Inserting middleware between the marketplaces and the kitchen adds a failure point; when Otter has an incident, orders stop arriving even though DoorDash and Uber Eats are working normally.
  • POS integration depth varies by system, and on some point of sale platforms orders arrive as a single lumped item rather than as itemised tickets, which breaks product mix reporting.
  • Support is tiered by plan and lower tier customers report slow resolution on order routing faults, which are precisely the faults that cost money within the hour.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Who owns Otter?

CloudKitchens, the City Storage Systems business founded by Travis Kalanick, which also leases delivery only kitchen space.

Does it reduce marketplace commission?

No. You still pay DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub their normal commission. Otter reduces tablet handling and re keying, not commission.

Can I keep my existing POS?

In most cases yes, but check whether the integration passes itemised orders or a single consolidated line, because that determines whether your sales mix reporting stays usable.

What happens if Otter goes down?

Orders can be worked directly on the marketplace tablets, which is why most kitchens keep them rather than returning them.
