Omnichannel messaging over 800 direct operator connections, strongest outside the big Western markets

As of 31 August 2026, Infobip's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A Croatian communications platform that owns its infrastructure, including a US carrier, and holds direct operator connections where rivals use intermediaries. Softwr lists it under Telecommunications. Infobip is available on Web, API.

Overview

What Infobip does

Infobip provides SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, Viber, voice, email and chat messaging through a single API, together with a customer engagement suite covering campaign orchestration, chatbots and agent conversations. It was founded in Vodnjan, on the Istrian coast of Croatia, in 2006, and remains headquartered there rather than in a larger financial centre. It took its first institutional investment, 300 million euros from One Equity Partners, in the second half of 2020. Its differentiator is infrastructure rather than software. Infobip states it holds more than 800 direct operator connections out of over ten thousand total, and it has bought its way into owning network assets rather than only reselling: it acquired OpenMarket from Amdocs in 2020, the SMS firewall specialist Anam Technologies in 2021, and the US facilities-based carrier Peerless Network, which closed in July 2022. The commercial consequence shows up in specific places. On routes across Africa, the Middle East, South and South East Asia and Latin America, messages sent through other vendors typically pass through several intermediaries, each taking margin and each a point at which delivery reporting stops being trustworthy. For a business whose users are there, that is the difference between a one-time passcode channel that works and a support queue full of people who never got their code. For a business sending only to the United States or Western Europe it changes very little, and cheaper vendors reach the same handsets. The pricing position needs care. Infobip publishes a price calculator, but it states plainly that the figure shown is the average across all supported networks in a country and that per-network pricing is available only inside its portal. Since what you actually pay depends on which networks your recipients are on, the public number is an indication rather than a quote.

What people use it for

  • Businesses delivering one-time passcodes to users in Africa, South Asia or Latin America
  • Enterprises consolidating SMS, WhatsApp and RCS onto a single supplier contract
  • Operators needing an SMS firewall as well as a sending platform
  • Global brands needing local sender registration handled market by market

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Infobip.

  • The published calculator shows only the average price across a country's networks, and per-network rates sit behind the portal, so the public figure is not what you will be billed.
  • Its regional strength is irrelevant to a business sending only to the United States or Western Europe, where cheaper vendors reach the same handsets.
  • The engagement suite pushes buyers toward a broader platform commitment than a team that wanted a messaging API had intended to make.
  • Enterprise onboarding and contracting take longer than a self-serve competitor, which suits a product still validating a channel poorly.
  • US A2P traffic still carries 10DLC registration and per-segment carrier surcharges, so the negotiated rate is not the delivered cost in that market.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

When is Infobip clearly the right choice?

When a material share of your users are in markets that other vendors reach through intermediaries, such as parts of Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and Latin America. Direct operator connections there improve both delivery rates and the reliability of delivery reporting.

Does Infobip publish per-country prices?

Only partly. Its calculator shows the average price across all networks in a country, and it states that per-network pricing is available in the portal. Vendors such as Sinch and Plivo publish more granular rate cards.

Does Infobip own network infrastructure?

Yes, more than most of its competitors. It reports over 800 direct operator connections and owns Peerless Network, a facilities-based US carrier it acquired in 2022.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Infobip, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish.
