Telnyx

Voice, messaging and connectivity APIs on a private global IP network

As of 31 August 2026, Telnyx's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A communications API vendor that carries traffic over its own private IP backbone and publishes a per-destination rate card, so cost by country can be compared before any sales conversation. Softwr lists it under Telecommunications. Telnyx is available on Web, API, Windows.

Overview

What Telnyx does

Telnyx provides SMS and MMS, programmable voice, SIP trunking, phone numbers and cellular IoT SIMs through a single API and portal, operating a private multi-region IP network with direct carrier interconnects rather than routing over the public internet. Two things distinguish it commercially. The first is transparency: Telnyx publishes a rate card listing per-message and per-minute prices by destination country, which is the number that actually determines what a communications feature costs and which most enterprise vendors will only disclose under a sales process. Being able to model your own destination mix before contacting anybody is a real procurement advantage. The second is the private backbone, which is the basis of its voice quality claim, since jitter and packet loss on the public internet are what degrade calls. In practice Telnyx is usually cheaper per unit than the largest aggregator on the same route, and the gap is widest on international destinations where aggregator margins are largest. It is bought by cost-sensitive engineering teams and by platforms with steady, predictable volume. The trade-off is a smaller support organisation and ecosystem than the incumbent, which matters at three in the morning rather than during evaluation.

What people use it for

  • Teams moving off a larger aggregator to reduce per-message cost at steady volume
  • Applications with international voice traffic where per-minute rates vary sharply by destination
  • Platforms needing SIP trunking and programmable voice from a single supplier
  • Products combining messaging with cellular IoT connectivity on one account

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Telnyx.

  • The advertised per-message price excludes US 10DLC registration fees and carrier surcharges, so American A2P traffic costs more than the rate card row suggests.
  • Support and the partner ecosystem are smaller than the market leader, which matters most during an incident rather than during evaluation.
  • The cost advantage only becomes material at volume, so low-traffic projects save little while giving up ecosystem breadth.
  • Toll fraud controls need configuring properly, because a misconfigured voice account can accumulate serious cost quickly.
  • Product breadth is strong for voice and messaging but thinner for adjacent channels such as video, so multi-channel products may still need a second vendor.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

How much do per-message rates vary between countries?

By more than an order of magnitude. US A2P SMS is priced in small fractions of a cent per segment, while some international destinations run to several cents or more per message. Always price your actual destination mix rather than a headline US rate.

Are 10DLC fees included in the published price?

No. US A2P messaging requires brand and campaign registration, and those one-off and monthly fees plus per-segment carrier surcharges are added on top of the per-message rate.

Why does the private network matter?

Voice quality degrades with jitter and packet loss on the public internet. Carrying traffic on a private backbone with direct carrier interconnects is what the quality claim rests on.
