The short version
- Each has a real cost: Ambra Health intelerad now owns Ambra and ambrahealth.com redirects to Intelerad client support, so a buyer is committing to the Intelerad portfolio roadmap and should get written positioning on Ambra versus Intelerad own cloud PACS before signing.; Therapixel european and American regulatory positions were established under different regimes, and under the EU Medical Device Regulation this class of diagnostic AI faces a higher classification and notified body scrutiny, so European buyers must verify the current MDR certificate and expiry rather than relying on a legacy CE reference.
- They diverge on capability: Ambra Health covers Image exchange, Therapixel covers MammoScreen 2D.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

What people use each for
The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.
Ambra Health
- A trauma centre that receives transfers from regional hospitals and needs outside CT studies readable before the patient arrives, not after a disc is walked innot Therapixel
- An oncology programme collecting outside imaging for multidisciplinary tumour board review from dozens of referring practicesnot Therapixel
- A clinical research organisation routing de identified trial imaging from many sites to one central reading facilitynot Therapixel
- A health system trying to eliminate the CD import desk by giving patients and referring practices a direct upload portalnot Therapixel
Therapixel
- A European breast screening programme running mandatory double reading that wants to evaluate AI as a concurrent or second reader within what national guidance permitsnot Ambra Health
- An American breast centre that has moved to tomosynthesis and needs reading support on DBT specifically, which Therapixel holds a clearance fornot Ambra Health
- A screening service wanting a graded suspicion score rather than a binary flag so readers can calibrate their own thresholdnot Ambra Health
- A radiology group evaluating multiple mammography AI vendors head to head on their own historic case set before committingnot Ambra Health
Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Ambra Health
- Intelerad now owns Ambra and ambrahealth.com redirects to Intelerad client support, so a buyer is committing to the Intelerad portfolio roadmap and should get written positioning on Ambra versus Intelerad own cloud PACS before signing.
- Ambra is built for cross organisation exchange, not for high volume in department diagnostic reading, so a radiology group that expects it to replace a departmental PACS finds the reading ergonomics and hanging protocols thinner than a dedicated PACS client.
- Pricing scales with study volume and stored capacity, so a health system that turns on patient upload broadly sees storage grow from low value outside studies it never intended to retain, and the renewal reflects that.
- Identity reconciliation of studies arriving with foreign patient identifiers still needs human review at volume, and sites that budget for zero touch matching end up staffing an imaging records queue.
- Adoption depends on referring practices actually using the portal, and the vendor cannot make that happen, so image exchange projects frequently stall at the outreach and change management step rather than at the technology.
Therapixel
- European and American regulatory positions were established under different regimes, and under the EU Medical Device Regulation this class of diagnostic AI faces a higher classification and notified body scrutiny, so European buyers must verify the current MDR certificate and expiry rather than relying on a legacy CE reference.
- MammoScreen does mammography only, so a hospital wanting AI across head CT, chest and breast needs several vendors and several PACS integrations, or an orchestration layer bought from someone else.
- Therapixel is a small French company competing against Hologic and iCAD, which have incumbency inside the mammography reading workstation, so integration into an American breast centre is more work than it is for the workstation vendor own AI.
- Detection performance is sensitive to the mammography unit vendor and acquisition protocol, so published results do not transfer between estates and each site needs local validation it must fund itself.
- Whether AI can substitute for one of two human readers is a national workforce and liability question, not a product capability, so the labour saving that justifies the purchase in one country is not permitted in another.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Ambra Health: Is Ambra Health still sold under its own name?
Yes. Intelerad still markets Ambra Health as a named product line, but the standalone website redirects to Intelerad, and support and contracting run through Intelerad.
Therapixel: Is MammoScreen FDA cleared?
Yes. It holds 510(k) clearance K192854 for two dimensional mammography from July 2020, a November 2021 clearance for digital breast tomosynthesis, and two further clearances in October 2024 for later versions.
Ambra Health: Can Ambra replace our PACS?
For image exchange, archiving and clinical viewing, yes. For high volume diagnostic radiology reading it is generally deployed alongside a departmental PACS rather than instead of one.
Therapixel: Is it CE marked?
Yes, but European buyers should ask specifically for the current certificate under the Medical Device Regulation and its expiry date, because this class of diagnostic AI moved to a higher classification under MDR.
Ambra Health: Is pricing published?
No. It is quoted by annual study volume, stored capacity and the scope of exchange connections.
Therapixel: What does the one to ten score mean?
It is a graded suspicion score per finding and per study, designed to be integrated alongside a radiologist BI-RADS assessment rather than treated as a positive or negative result.
Ambra Health: Does the viewer require software on referring physician machines?
No. The viewer is zero footprint HTML5, which is the main reason referring practices adopt it at all.
Therapixel: Does it cover anything besides mammography?
No. It is a mammography product only, including tomosynthesis. Other body regions need a different vendor.
