The short version
- Each has a real cost: Lunit the regulatory permission differs by product and by region, and INSIGHT Risk has been filed with the FDA but not cleared, so a buyer who reads a corporate press release rather than the specific clearance for their product and jurisdiction will plan a deployment they cannot legally run.; SilverCloud by Amwell the evidence base is for the guided model, and organisations that deploy SilverCloud as unstaffed self service get the completion rates of unguided self help, which is not what the trials measured.
- They diverge on capability: Lunit covers Lunit INSIGHT MMG, SilverCloud by Amwell covers Guided programmes.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

- An American breast imaging centre needing automated volumetric density assessment to meet patient density notification requirements, which is what Volpara is bought fornot SilverCloud by Amwell
- A tuberculosis or lung screening programme in a high volume, radiologist scarce setting using chest radiography triage to prioritise filmsnot SilverCloud by Amwell
SilverCloud by Amwell
- An NHS talking therapies service needing a digital option that fits national reporting requirements and reduces waiting list pressure for step two interventionsnot Lunit
- A health plan wanting a digital mental health offering it can defend to a clinical governance committee with peer reviewed trial evidencenot Lunit
- A university counselling service facing demand it cannot staff, using guided digital cognitive behavioural therapy as a first stepnot Lunit
- An employer that wants an evidence based clinical intervention rather than a wellbeing content librarynot Lunit
Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Lunit
- The regulatory permission differs by product and by region, and INSIGHT Risk has been filed with the FDA but not cleared, so a buyer who reads a corporate press release rather than the specific clearance for their product and jurisdiction will plan a deployment they cannot legally run.
- Detection AI changes recall rates in screening, and the downstream cost of additional diagnostic workup lands on the programme rather than on the software budget, which is the cost most screening business cases omit.
- Performance is sensitive to the mammography vendor and acquisition protocol, so published results from a Hologic estate do not transfer to a GE or Siemens estate without local validation the buyer must fund.
- MMG, DBT and CXR are licensed separately and Volpara modules are separate again, so a breast centre wanting detection, density and risk pathways is assembling four line items rather than buying one product.
- Using AI as a replacement for one of two human readers is a workforce and liability decision that regulators and professional bodies treat differently in each country, so the saving that justifies the purchase may not be permitted where you operate.
SilverCloud by Amwell
- The evidence base is for the guided model, and organisations that deploy SilverCloud as unstaffed self service get the completion rates of unguided self help, which is not what the trials measured.
- Supporter capacity is normally the buyer responsibility rather than part of the licence, so the real cost includes trained staff time that does not appear on the software quote.
- Digital cognitive behavioural therapy has substantial dropout across all vendors, so a service planning capacity from enrolment numbers rather than completion numbers will overstate the throughput gained.
- It is now sold as part of the Amwell portfolio, and Amwell has restructured its product lines since acquiring SilverCloud, so buyers should ask how SilverCloud is positioned within the Amwell Converge platform and whether it can still be bought standalone.
- Guided digital cognitive behavioural therapy is a step two intervention and does not serve moderate to severe presentations, so a service that buys it without a funded escalation pathway simply relocates the queue.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Lunit: Is Lunit FDA cleared?
Yes for specific products. INSIGHT MMG, INSIGHT DBT and INSIGHT CXR Triage hold FDA 510(k) clearances. INSIGHT Risk, the five year risk prediction model, has been filed but was not cleared at the time of writing.
SilverCloud by Amwell: Is SilverCloud still available under its own name?
Yes. It is marketed as SilverCloud by Amwell and has its own product pages and NHS partnership, though contracting runs through Amwell.
Lunit: Can Lunit replace a second human reader in screening?
That depends entirely on your jurisdiction and professional body guidance, not on the software. The CE mark permits clinical use; it does not authorise a workforce model.
SilverCloud by Amwell: What evidence supports it?
It has been evaluated in independently led randomised controlled trials, including a National Institute of Mental Health funded study published in Nature Human Behaviour in 2026 examining prevalence of mental disorders over two years at scale.
Lunit: What did the Volpara acquisition add?
Volumetric breast density measurement, dose tracking and RiskPathways high risk programme management, which are the things American breast centres buy for density notification compliance rather than for detection.
SilverCloud by Amwell: Do we need to provide the supporters?
In most deployments, yes. The guided model requires trained supporter time, and that staffing is usually the buyer responsibility rather than included in the licence.
Lunit: Is pricing published?
No. It is quoted per study or per annual volume, by product, with on premises and cloud priced differently.
SilverCloud by Amwell: Is it suitable for severe presentations?
No. It is a step two style intervention for mild to moderate presentations, and it needs a funded escalation pathway for anything more severe.
