The short version

  • Each has a real cost: Sabre Red 360 the commercial deal is a multi-year segment volume commitment, so an agency that moves bookings to airline direct connects can end up paying shortfall penalties on volume it no longer books through Sabre.; Shiji chinese ownership and a Shenzhen listing raise data residency and supply chain questions that must be settled during procurement, and in United States government or defence-adjacent accounts they can end the evaluation outright.
  • They diverge on capability: Sabre Red 360 covers Graphical and cryptic modes, Shiji covers Daylight PMS.

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Sabre Red 360

  • The commercial deal is a multi-year segment volume commitment, so an agency that moves bookings to airline direct connects can end up paying shortfall penalties on volume it no longer books through Sabre.
  • NDC content behaves differently from classic EDIFACT content inside the workspace, and servicing an NDC order often means leaving the normal exchange and refund workflow.
  • Cryptic entries remain necessary for a meaningful set of tasks, so training a new consultant to productive speed takes months rather than days.
  • It is a desktop-weighted product on Windows, which makes it awkward for agencies running fully remote or Mac-based teams without virtual desktop infrastructure.
  • Pricing is never published and is entangled with incentive economics, so two agencies of similar size can be on materially different terms with no visibility of each other.

Shiji

  • Chinese ownership and a Shenzhen listing raise data residency and supply chain questions that must be settled during procurement, and in United States government or defence-adjacent accounts they can end the evaluation outright.
  • Pricing is entirely quoted with no published figures at any product level, so comparing Shiji against Oracle or Mews on cost requires a full sales engagement.
  • The portfolio is partly assembled from acquisitions, and the degree of integration between products varies, so a group buying several Shiji modules should test the joins rather than assume them.
  • Implementation timelines at enterprise scale run to many months and require interface development that is charged on top of licence, which is a substantial hidden budget line.
  • It is not a realistic option below roughly the mid-scale group level; a single independent hotel will not get sensible pricing or attention.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

Sabre Red 360: Do we pay a licence fee for Sabre Red 360?

Usually not directly. It is bundled into a GDS segment agreement in which Sabre pays your agency incentives per segment, so the negotiation is over volume commitments and incentive rates.

Shiji: What do you actually buy from Shiji?

Most commonly Daylight PMS, Infrasys point of sale, or both, plus payments. The group name covers a wider portfolio than any one hotel purchases.

Sabre Red 360: Can corporates buy it to book their own travel?

No. It is an agent workspace. Corporates buy a TMC or an online booking tool such as GetThere, Egencia or TravelPerk instead.

Shiji: Does Chinese ownership matter?

It can. For United States government-adjacent business and some corporate accounts it triggers data residency and supply chain review, so raise it at the start of procurement rather than at contract stage.

Sabre Red 360: Does it handle NDC?

Yes, Sabre distributes NDC offers from a growing airline list, but servicing NDC orders follows a separate flow from classic GDS bookings.

Shiji: Is Shiji an alternative to Oracle Hospitality?

Yes, and that is largely its positioning at the enterprise end, particularly in international luxury groups where Infrasys already has deployment.

Shiji: Can a single hotel buy it?

In principle, but the commercial model, implementation cost and support structure assume a group, and small properties are better served elsewhere.
