Tractian
Field Service
CMMS with published per-user pricing plus vibration sensors sold as a separate per-asset subscription
- From

The short version
- Each has a real cost: Litmus Edge pricing is by site and data point, so a large tag count at one plant can cost more than a modest tag count spread over several, which is the opposite of how most manufacturers plan a rollout.; Tractian sensors are excluded from both published CMMS tiers and are quoted per monitored asset, so the transparent rate card covers only the part of the deployment that costs least.
- They diverge on capability: Litmus Edge covers Prebuilt driver library, Tractian covers Published per-user pricing.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

What people use each for
The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.
Litmus Edge
- A manufacturer with twenty plants and five PLC brands that needs one data acquisition standard rather than twenty bespoke integrationsnot Tractian
- Feeding a cloud data warehouse or lakehouse with normalised production data without asking the controls team to write cloud connectorsnot Tractian
- Retrofitting data collection onto old CNC machines and robots where the protocol support is the hard part, not the analyticsnot Tractian
- Adding local buffering and computation at sites with unreliable WAN links so cloud outages do not create gaps in production historynot Tractian
Tractian
- A mid-market plant replacing spreadsheet maintenance planning where hundreds of operators must report faults but only a dozen plan worknot Litmus Edge
- Instrumenting critical motors and pumps and having detected faults become work orders without an integration projectnot Litmus Edge
- A maintenance manager who needs a defensible budget figure before an approval meeting rather than a quote in three weeksnot Litmus Edge
- A multi-site manufacturer wanting the same CMMS and sensor platform across Brazilian, Mexican and United States plantsnot Litmus Edge
Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Litmus Edge
- Pricing is by site and data point, so a large tag count at one plant can cost more than a modest tag count spread over several, which is the opposite of how most manufacturers plan a rollout.
- The entry package sits around $1,500 per month, an awkward number for a single-site pilot given that the product is infrastructure with no visible output of its own until something downstream consumes it.
- Litmus does no analytics, so the business case always depends on a second purchase; the platform on its own produces no result a plant manager can see.
- Full pricing beyond the entry tier is not published and the Growth and Scale packages are quoted, so scaling costs are unknown at the point you commit to the architecture.
- A capable controls team can approximate a single-site deployment with an open-source broker and a driver gateway for a fraction of the cost, so the value case depends entirely on how many sites you are managing centrally.
Tractian
- Sensors are excluded from both published CMMS tiers and are quoted per monitored asset, so the transparent rate card covers only the part of the deployment that costs least.
- Smart Trac hardware reports into the Tractian platform, so a plant that later changes analytics vendor writes off the installed sensor base.
- The five-user minimum on Standard and ten-user minimum on Enterprise put a floor under the cost that small maintenance teams cannot get below.
- ERP integration, single sign-on and the Power BI connector are Enterprise-only, so an organisation needing SAP integration pays the higher rate for every licensed user including technicians who need none of it.
- The company is young and venture-funded with rapid product expansion, so enterprise features are newer than the core CMMS and reference sites at large industrial scale are fewer than for established EAM vendors.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Litmus Edge: Does Litmus Edge do analytics or dashboards?
Only lightweight edge computation and basic visualisation. It is a data acquisition and normalisation layer; the analysis happens in whatever you send the data to.
Tractian: What does the CMMS actually cost?
Standard is from 60 USD per user per month with five users minimum, Enterprise from 100 USD with ten minimum, both billed annually.
Litmus Edge: How is it priced?
By number of sites and number of data points, in packages. The entry package starts around $1,500 per month; larger tiers are quoted.
Tractian: Are the sensors included?
No. Both CMMS tiers explicitly exclude sensors, which are priced per monitored asset under a separate bundle that is not published.
Litmus Edge: Can it replace my historian?
No. It buffers and forwards but is not a long-term historian. Most deployments send data into a historian, warehouse or lakehouse.
Tractian: Do fault reporters need licences?
No. Requester accounts are unlimited on both tiers, which is the main reason the per-user price is workable for large plants.
Litmus Edge: Does it need Litmus hardware?
No. It runs on standard industrial PCs, virtual machines or containers; there is no proprietary appliance requirement.
Tractian: Can I use the sensors with another platform?
No. Smart Trac hardware reports to the Tractian platform.
