Customer engagement and retention automation for consumer businesses in India and Southeast Asia
As of 31 August 2026, WebEngage's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A retention marketing platform competing with Braze and CleverTap, priced against Indian and Southeast Asian budgets rather than American ones. Softwr lists it under Marketing. WebEngage is available on Web, iOS SDK, Android SDK, React Native.
Overview
WebEngage is a customer data and engagement platform for consumer businesses: it ingests user events and attributes, builds segments from behaviour, and runs multi-step journeys that fire push notifications, in-app messages, web push, email, SMS and WhatsApp. It includes a journey designer, a personalisation layer, product recommendation, on-site surveys and analytics such as funnels, cohorts and retention curves. The company is Mumbai-based and remains independent. What distinguishes it commercially is price positioning rather than capability. Its feature set maps closely onto Braze, MoEngage and CleverTap, but it is built and sold for the Indian, Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets and priced accordingly, which repeatedly puts it well under the incumbent quotes for the same monthly tracked user counts. For a fintech, edtech, media or ecommerce business in those regions with several million users and a small marketing budget, that gap is the whole reason the product is on the list. The WhatsApp channel is treated as a primary channel rather than an afterthought, which reflects the same market reality. Buyers are consumer app companies in India, Indonesia, the UAE and increasingly Latin America and Africa. The trade-off is that nothing is published, so the price advantage cannot be verified before you engage; the implementation requires real engineering to instrument events properly; and the enterprise security, compliance and support apparatus is lighter than the American vendors, which matters if procurement expects the paperwork.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about WebEngage.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Braze: If you need enterprise compliance documentation, global support and the deepest journey and experimentation tooling, and can afford the price.

MoEngage: If you want a directly comparable Indian-origin platform with a stronger presence in Europe and the Middle East.

Iterable: If your business is North American and you want published enterprise credibility and a large integration ecosystem.

It does not publish pricing. It is quoted by monthly tracked users with message volumes charged separately, and it typically comes in below Braze and CleverTap for equivalent volumes.
Both, in practice. It assembles unified user profiles from event streams and then acts on them, though it is lighter than a dedicated CDP on data warehousing and identity resolution.
No. It remains an independent Mumbai-based company.
Mobile push, in-app, web push, email, SMS and WhatsApp, with WhatsApp treated as a first-class channel rather than an add-on.
