Feedzai: Stronger for real-time card and payment fraud in the authorisation path, with an established tier one bank footprint

Unsupervised AI transaction monitoring for cross-border and correspondent banking
As of 1 September 2026, ThetaRay's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. AML monitoring that looks for anomalies without being told what to look for, aimed at correspondent banks and payment firms. Softwr lists it under Cybersecurity. ThetaRay is available on Web.
Overview
ThetaRay monitors payment flows for money laundering and sanctions evasion using unsupervised anomaly detection rather than threshold rules. It was built for the correspondent banking and cross-border payments problem, where a bank sees only one leg of a transaction and the counterparties sit in other jurisdictions. The system builds behavioural baselines per customer and per corridor and flags deviation, which is intended to surface typologies that no analyst wrote a rule for. The commercial argument is alert quality. Traditional rules engines in AML produce false positive rates commonly cited above ninety percent, and the cost of AML is largely the cost of analysts clearing those alerts. ThetaRay sells a reduction in alert volume at equal or better detection, which converts directly into headcount. That is a measurable claim, and buyers should insist on a parallel run against their existing system before signing, because the claim is only true on some data. Buyers are correspondent banks, fintechs handling cross-border flows and payment service providers, with a concentration in institutions that have faced regulatory findings. The trade-off is explainability. Unsupervised models are harder to defend to an examiner than a rule that says report cash over ten thousand, and some regulators are more comfortable with the latter regardless of detection performance.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about ThetaRay.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Rarely on day one. Most institutions run it alongside existing rules during a parallel period, and some keep specific regulator-mandated rules permanently.
SaaS runs on Microsoft Azure with regional deployment options, which is the mechanism for meeting data residency conditions in regulated markets.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for ThetaRay, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish.
