Simplify3D prepares 3D models for printing: it slices geometry into toolpaths, generates supports, previews the print layer by layer and writes G-code for a wide range of FDM machines. Version 5 rebuilt the slicing engine and added a process-based workflow where different regions or heights of a part can be sliced with different settings. Licences are perpetual, activated per user, and available as standard, floating for shared team use, or offline for networks with no internet access. The distinguishing fact is commercial rather than technical: almost every competitor is free. Ultimaker Cura, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer, Bambu Studio and most vendor-bundled slicers cost nothing, so Simplify3D has to justify $199 on something else.
